Earlier this week Practice Direction 10 of 2024 was amended to allow DNA cases that were languishing in the Toowoomba, Gatton, Warwick, Southport & Coolangatta Magistrates Courts to be referred to the DNA Affected Case Callover operating in Brisbane. This means that cases that had stalled in those jurisdictions following the 2022 and 2023 DNA inquiries are now able to progress through the criminal justice system towards resolution. The amendments follow written submissions from Behlau Murakami Grant and leading DNA academics Lynne Weathered and Dr Janet Chaseling to the Crisafulli Government's DNA review team.

Earlier this month, I was privileged to chair a session at the Queensland Law Society 2026 symposium on the topic "First Nations Perspectives on Generative AI" alongside Millie Russell, Managing Partner at Russells and
Founders & Principal Solicitors for Parallax Legal, Cassie Lang and Stephanie Parkin. Very insightful perspectives on a topic that deserves attention.

Looking forward to chairing the "First Nations Perspectives on Generative AI" session at this years QLS symposium.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of moving the admission of Ms Heather Ferris, a proud Gungarri woman and my colleague at the Queensland Law Society First Nations Consulting Committee. The admission ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice Bowskill, Justice Boddice and Justice Bradley.

I have worked alongside Heather for over three years and I have no doubt she will become a great asset to the profession and an inspiration to other First Nations aspiring to become lawyers.

Heather, her partner and mother along with her extended work family, including Louise Pennisi from the were all present to celebrate this wonderful acheivement.
