It is always nice to be acknowledged, and especially by your peers.

Congratulations to our client Grange Development on the approval of C6 South Perth, which when constructed, will be the world's tallest hybrid timber tower.

At the forefront of sustainable construction, the project includes the following features -
✅ a 6 star Greenstar rating
✅ the capture of 10.5K tonnes of CO2 in its hybrid timber structure
✅ a bike bay for every apartment and a designated bike maintenance workshop
✅ a share-fleet of 80 Teslas for resident use
✅ 11.2% of energy requirements generated by on-structure solar elements
✅ 90% of irrigation provided by recycled greywater capture
✅ 182 new native and productive trees planted across the development

Congratulations to my client Moonies Hill Energy, led by the indefatigable Dr Sarah Rankin, on the announcement of the deal with Enel Green Power and BHP for the construction of the Flat Rocks Windfarm on land in the Shire of Kojonup and Broomehill-Tambellup.

Stage 1 of the Flat Rocks Wind Farm will consist of 18 wind turbines with an investment value of over $200 million. Construction will commence in August 2022 and bring approximately 120 construction jobs and 10 permanent jobs to the region.

It really has been a career highlight to be involved in this project since its inception 15 years ago, and I cannot wait to see those turbines turning on the horizon when Stage 1 is commissioned in late 2023.

Approved! Congratulations to our client on the approval of their 14 apartment mixed use development on Waratah Avenue Dalkeith - approved by the Metro Inner-North JDAP this morning.

Designed by Lance Smith at Duomark, the development is designed to have regard to the City of Nedlands' new Laneway Policy, and boasts a laudable array of apartment sizes and generously proportioned balconies - providing housing diversity to the area.

APPROVED!!

Congratulations to our client, Mustera Property Group Limited on the approval of the beautiful Forbes Residences in Applecross - approved by the Metro Central JDAP this morning.

Designed by the architectural collaboration of WOHA Architects and MJA Studio, the building includes hanging gardens and vertical trellises, a community garden and extensive landscaping at ground and podium levels.

I am very proud to have been involved in the team behind this iconic project, together with Urbis (Ray Haeren and Kris Nolan).

COVID-19 legal updates

By the end of 2020, the phrase 'we are living in unusual times' will surely be the most used phrase throughout the world. However, it's hard really to encapsulate the current state of affairs without accepting this fact.

For those involved in the built environment - property developers, landlords, regulators and consultants, we are watching this crisis unfold, without being able to predict where things will settle. What we do know is that the WA State Government is attempting, through the tools it has available, to tweak and amend our current laws to preserve development approvals and to allow our system to be a little more 'nimble' in its approach to land uses.

Some of those amendments have been able to be delivered through regulation and associated legislative instruments. Some however, will require amendment to Acts. In the usual course, amendments to legislation would be made available prior to being introduced to Parliament. Such is the urgency to modify existing arrangements, just yesterday a bill was introduced to amend the Local Government Act 1995 and only made available on the Parliament's website at the same time - unusual times indeed.
