COVID-19 legal updates
By the end of 2020, the phrase 'we are living in unusual times' will surely be the most used phrase throughout the world. However, it's hard really to encapsulate the current state of affairs without accepting this fact.
For those involved in the built environment - property developers, landlords, regulators and consultants, we are watching this crisis unfold, without being able to predict where things will settle. What we do know is that the WA State Government is attempting, through the tools it has available, to tweak and amend our current laws to preserve development approvals and to allow our system to be a little more 'nimble' in its approach to land uses.
Some of those amendments have been able to be delivered through regulation and associated legislative instruments. Some however, will require amendment to Acts. In the usual course, amendments to legislation would be made available prior to being introduced to Parliament. Such is the urgency to modify existing arrangements, just yesterday a bill was introduced to amend the Local Government Act 1995 and only made available on the Parliament's website at the same time - unusual times indeed.
During this period, Moharich and More will be monitoring the business of Parliament, and the Government Gazettes to bring you information that we think will be of interest to you. Feel free to email us at [email protected] if you have any questions that you would like answered in further updates.
