Originally I started NRNR to speak at local schools about the importance of respectful relationships. Recently a number of solicitors have expressed a desire to join me in this project and so we are expanding it. The primary goal of NRNR is for lawyers or ex-lawyers to speak at schools that are local to them about respect, and specifically the importance of respectful relationships. The lawyers wi

ll focus on two things, the definition of respect including how it applies to the relationships in the student’s lives, and why all people are inherently deserving of respectful relationships. Lawyers are well suited to this because they are good at three things, explaining to people how pre-defined rules apply in real life, understanding and explaining the basic underpinnings of our legal system (civil liberties and human rights), and speaking convincingly on a topic. There will be others involved in the project because speaking is just the last part of a series of tasks that need to be undertaken. This organisation will exist to coordinate the people fulfilling these different roles and to support those involved in the project.

I come to your organisation, school or work place to speak with your people. I tailor the talks to the audience, your audience, including discussing with you beforehand what your needs are, and what you would like us to discuss.

American and Canadian research suggests as many as three-quarters of female victims of domestic violence have suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI), with some experts estimating up to 20 million women in the US sustain TBIs through partner violence every year — 11 to 12 times the number experienced by athletes and military personnel combined.

The next frontier of Australia's concussion crisis isn't on the football field, but in homes across the country, where victims of domestic violence are sustaining brain injuries at staggering rates.

The high incidence of financial abuse is also a red flag to other types of abuse, much like abusing animals, it should be treated as a warning that other things are happening or will occur.

This is one of the literal examples I give during my no respect no relationship talks, not if victim blaming per se, but the ways that we treat violence against men and violence against women differently. There are many stories of men being killed or injured walking home from the pub, usually they are drunk and the other male is drunk, and no one ever asks this question.

We want to come and speak at your school, there is no cost to the school. We want to talk to your students about respect, not as an academic concept but as a real test that your students can apply to all of their relationships. We want to deep dive into a definition of the word that will hopefully give them a fresh way to measure the relationships they see around them.

We also want to talk to them about why respect applies to all human beings (therefore they cannot lose the right to be treated with respect), and look at some practical responses that they might make if they were in a difficult situation.
