πŸ’œ World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - 15 June 2026 πŸ’œ

Today we stand together to raise awareness of elder abuse and reaffirm the right of every older person to live with dignity, respect, safety, and independence.

Elder abuse can occur in many forms, including financial, emotional, physical, psychological, and social abuse. It often occurs at the hands of someone known to and trusted by the older person.

By increasing awareness, supporting older people, and encouraging respectful relationships, we can all play a role in preventing elder abuse and creating safer communities.

If you or someone you know may be experiencing elder abuse, support is available.

For free, confidential information, advocacy and support, contact Aged Rights Advocacy Service (ARAS), which supports older South Australians to uphold their rights and access assistance. ARAS provides support to older people who may be experiencing or at risk of abuse, including financial, emotional, physical, sexual abuse and neglect.

πŸ“ž ARAS: 1800 700 600
πŸ“ž Adult Safeguarding Unit (SA): 1800 372 310

Together, we can help ensure that every older person is treated with the dignity, respect and safety they deserve. πŸ’œ

🀝 Reconciliation in the West 2026

WestSide Community Lawyers was proud to attend this year's Reconciliation in the West event, hosted by Anglicare SA, Taoundi Aboriginal College, Life Without Barriers and Uniting SA.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with community members, local organisations, and service providers while recognising and celebrating the importance of reconciliation, respect, and meaningful partnerships with First Nations peoples.

Representing WestSide Community Lawyers on the day were Melissa Downie, our Wellbeing Support Officer, and Catherine Coleiro, CEO & Managing Lawyer, who enjoyed engaging with attendees and sharing information about the legal and support services available to our community.

Thank you to Anglicare SA, Taoundi Aboriginal College, Life Without Barriers and Uniting SA and all those involved in organising such an important community event. We are grateful to be part of a region committed to fostering understanding, inclusion, and stronger community connections.
