Important client update: New AUSTRAC requirements from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, Settlement Agents and Conveyancers across Australia will need to comply with new Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing obligations administered by AUSTRAC.

For clients buying, selling or transferring property, this may mean we need to collect some additional information and documents as part of your matter.

This can include:

- Proof of identity

- Confirmation of your residential address

- Details for companies, trusts or other entities involved

- Information about the source of funds for the transaction

- Authority-to-act information where someone is acting on behalf of another person

- Further documents for matters that require additional review

These requirements are mandatory and will apply to Settlement Agents and Conveyancers providing designated services under the new laws.

These reforms are being introduced to help protect against:

- Money laundering

- Terrorism financing

- Fraud and identity crime

- Criminal misuse of property transactions

🏡 Stamp duty changes announced for WA buyers
The WA Government has announced expanded stamp duty concessions for off-the-plan and under-construction properties as part of a $70.6M housing package.

Here’s what you need to know 👇

✨ More properties now eligible
The concession is expanding beyond apartments to include survey-strata homes like duplexes, triplexes, villas and townhouses.

💰 Pre-construction
• Full concession up to $800K
• Tapers up to $900K

🚧 Under construction
• 75% concession up to $800K
• Tapers to 37.5% up to $900K

📅 Extended timeframe
Now available until 30 June 2028 (previously 2026).

⚠️ Important: While announced as effective immediately, these changes still require legislation and formal implementation. If you signed a contract on or after 12 March 2026, we are still awaiting confirmation on how this will apply.
