New Skills in Demand (subclass 482) Visa, Australia expands pathways for Skilled Workers:
The Skills in Demand visa is replacing the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) Visa from December 7, 2024. This new visa features a three-tiered system based on annual earnings and occupation. Here's a breakdown of the requirements:
Specialist Skills Pathway:
- Guaranteed annual earnings of at least $135,000 (indexed annually)
- Priority processing with a 7-day median visa processing time
- No occupation list applicable, but excludes trades workers, machine operators, drivers, and laborers
Core Skills Pathway:
- Guaranteed annual earnings of at least $73,150 (indexed annually)
- A simpler and regularly updated Core Skills Occupation list (CSOL) managed by Jobs and Skills Australia
Essential Skills Pathway:
- For occupations earning under $73,150 per year but working in essential skill occupations
- Further assessment by the government is being undertaken on the best way to introduce this pathway
Other key elements of the Skills in Demand visa include:
- Time spent with any approved employer will count towards permanent residence requirements
- Visa holders will have access to self-nominated independent permanent pathways, in addition to employer-sponsored pathways
- The visa will provide for a 4-year stay for all streams
- Median processing time of 21 days
- Streamlined labour market testing (LMT) requirements.
