An agriculture worker in his late 20s was building his working life around physical work on the land. Then a lower back injury through his lumbar spine put a stop to it. At an age when most people are just getting started, his future in that work was suddenly in doubt.
Cathryn Wardrop, Senior Associate at our Bendigo office, and her team secured a $750,000 WorkCover settlement for his pain and suffering and loss of earnings. To secure his family's future, to foster a sense of justice, and to provide hope.
100% No Win, No Fee.

A wonderful day on the course supporting the Western Health Foundation.
Zaparas Lawyers was proud to be the major sponsor of the 2026 Western Health Foundation Corporate Golf Day, raising funds for surgical-precision technology that will improve breast cancer care for women in Melbourne's west.
Hearing Dr Alayne Moreira, Breast and General Surgeon, speak about the work being done at Western Health was the highlight of the day.
Joining for Zaparas Lawyers: Zoe Zaparas, Managing Partner; Rebecca Christofidis, Partner and Werribee Branch Manager; Harry Hatzis, Sunshine Branch Manager; and James Blair, Senior Associate.
Thank you to Sharon Reid and the Western Health Foundation team, and to Professor Russell Harrison, CEO of Western Health, for a brilliant day.

Celebrating Vesak Day with the Quang Minh Buddhist Temple community.
Our Sunshine Branch Manager, Harry Hatzis, and our community liaison officer, Cuc Lam OAM, recently joined Venerable Thich Phuoc Tan OAM, President Dr Pham, and the executive committee of the Quang Minh Buddhist Temple in Braybrook to mark Vesak Day, alongside many distinguished guests and community members.
Vesak, also known as Buddha Day, is the most sacred holiday in the Buddhist calendar. It commemorates three pivotal moments in the life of Gautama Buddha: his birth, his attainment of enlightenment, and his passing into Parinirvana.
To share in prayers for peace and prosperity at the temple was a special occasion. Thank you to Venerable Thich Phuoc Tan OAM, President Dr Pham, and the whole executive committee for welcoming us.

Cleaning chemicals at work caused your asthma? You may have a WorkCover claim.
Healthcare workers, cleaners and hospitality kitchen staff are exposed to industrial-strength disinfectants, sterilising agents, glutaraldehyde and latex allergens every single shift. Over months or years, repeated exposure can cause occupational asthma, chronic airway disease, or chemical sensitivity that can end careers.

Most workers think they cannot claim. They are wrong.

Time limits for occupational diseases run differently. You may still be entitled to claim even if your exposure to chemicals started many years ago.

Pey-Chiann Hor, Partner at Zaparas Lawyers, explains your rights as a Victorian worker.

Doyle's Guide ranks Zaparas Lawyers First Tier for work injury law in Victoria. Insurers take us seriously, which often means a fairer, faster settlement.

Last Thursday, our Bendigo team drove up to Shepparton Soccer Club to hand out the new Zaparas training tops to the junior teams.
Cathryn Wardrop, Alec Moss, Georgia Walker and Maddison were met by club president Mel and Kate. The kids pulled the tops on, and a lovely handwritten card from the families and players was waiting on the table (pictured).
What stood out across the afternoon was the spirit of the club. Kids from every background, side by side, brought together by the same game. Volunteers giving up their time because they care about the kids and the families in front of them. That spirit doesn't happen by accident. It takes years of work from people who show up week in, week out.
For us, sponsorship isn't about a logo on a shirt. It's about backing the families and the volunteers who keep community sport going, season after season.
To Mel, Kate, the coaches, the parents and every junior player who pulled on a teal training top last week, thank you for having us. Can't wait to see you out on the park this season.

A self-employed renderer in his late 50s. Years of heavy work caught up with him through his neck, shoulders and legs. The pain stopped him from working, and the insurer's first offer was nowhere near what he was owed.
Glen Northway, Senior Associate in our Pakenham office, took on the WorkCover claim. Zaparas was there every step of the way, fighting to get him everything he was owed. Pain and suffering. Loss of earnings. His family's future. Justice and hope.
Settlement: $275,000.

Today is Injured Workers' Day.

A day to remember every Victorian worker who has been hurt, made ill, or lost on the job. A day to stand with the families who carry that weight forward. And a day to recommit to the workers still navigating recovery, rehabilitation and the long road back to work and life.

For more than 40 years, Zaparas Lawyers has stood beside injured Victorians. From our founding in 1981 — and across two generations of family leadership — every claim we have run has begun with the same question: what does this person need to get their life back?

We are the family run firm that wins you more.

To every injured worker reading this today: you are seen. You are not alone. And you do not need to know the law to be heard.

Today is World No To***co Day. We want to clear up a myth that stops many Victorian workers from making the claims they may be entitled to.
Have a smoking history? You may still be eligible for WorkCover or a common law claim if your lung cancer, COPD, mesothelioma or other respiratory condition was caused or worsened by workplace exposure.
Workers exposed to silica, asbestos, diesel exhaust, welding fumes, coal dust or industrial chemicals can develop occupational lung disease, even if they have never smoked. Smoking history can come up in the medical assessment, but it is rarely the reason a claim fails.
If you are unsure whether your lung condition might be linked to your work, talk to one of our occupational disease lawyers today. Free and confidential.

He spent his working life on building sites, smoothing render onto walls across Melbourne. At 59, a serious injury to his neck, shoulder and legs took that away. Self-employed, no second income, and a body that could no longer do the work he had built his life around.
Glen Northway, Senior Associate in our Pakenham office, took on his WorkCover claim. He pursued what the injury had truly cost: pain and suffering, loss of earnings, and his family's future.
His claim settled for $275,000.
A result like this is never just a number. It is a worker given back some security and a family given back some hope.
