An NCAT home building decision can hit hard for builders.

When you have already invested time, labour and money, an unfavourable outcome can feel final, even when it may not be.

In our experience, many builders do not realise they may have appeal rights, or miss them entirely because the timeframes and grounds for appeal are misunderstood or overlooked.

NCAT appeals are technical, time-critical and tightly constrained. Early specialist advice can be critical in assessing whether an appeal is viable and in protecting the commercial position of your business.

If you are a builder and are unhappy with an NCAT home building decision, have a read here, then reach out to us quickly. ➡️ https://loom.ly/b6-_0t0

Employers‼️if the changes that came in late last year slipped under your radar, this is one worth revisiting.

From 1 November 2025, employers took on a new obligation when using fixed term contracts.

Employers must now provide a Fixed Term Contract Information Statement in addition to the Fair Work Information Statement. Missing this step can carry real consequences, including compliance action and fixed term employees being treated as ongoing.

If you use fixed term contracts, it is worth checking your documents and processes now. ➡️ https://loom.ly/Micstqs

Complex business disputes demand more than general advice.

They require specialists who understand not just the law, but how disputes unfold in practice — commercially, strategically and under pressure.

Our firm is proud to have 3 Accredited Specialists in Commercial Litigation. This accreditation is reserved for lawyers who have demonstrated advanced expertise, substantial experience and sound judgment in resolving complex business disputes.

Accreditation is not given lightly. It reflects years of focused practice, ongoing assessment and a commitment to the highest professional standards.

For our clients, it means clarity, confidence and strategic direction when the stakes are high.

If you are facing a dispute where outcomes matter and missteps are costly, specialist expertise makes a difference.

Family run businesses are not like other businesses.

When personal history, informal arrangements and complex structures collide, disputes can escalate quickly. And they are rarely just “commercial”.

In our experience, most family business disputes could have been avoided with a few practical steps taken early:
1️⃣ clear role definitions,
2️⃣ properly documented agreements,
3️⃣ regular reviews of business structures, and
4️⃣ considered succession planning.

If you advise, operate, or are part of a family business, this is a timely read. ➡️ https://loom.ly/b6-_0t0

In certain situations, builders can suspend work if payment is not made. This can help protect cash flow, but only if it is done correctly.

Before taking action, make sure you understand your rights. Our Security of Payment Guide explains when suspension is allowed and how to avoid costly mistakes.
