The Department of Home Affairs has introduced significant changes affecting onshore Student Visa applications and visa pathways

🔹 Certain visa holders, including **Subclass 403, 400, 482, 407, 408 and 462**, may now face restrictions on applying for a Student Visa while in Australia.

🔹 Changes have also been introduced around **Student Visa applications for partners and children**, with specific exemptions applying to certain nationalities and circumstances.

🔹 **Onshore Student Visa applications by partners** may also be restricted in certain situations.

🔹 New exemptions apply in specific circumstances, including **PhD studies, provider default, delayed course completion, and natural course progression**.

🔹 If you don't meet an exemption, you may need to **apply offshore and remain offshore while your Student Visa application is processed**.

The Subclass 189 invitation round that was expected yesterday has now been updated to 31 October 2026.
