TRUST CHANGES: With the 2026-27 Federal Budget having just been released, one of its key inclusions focused on the Government's intention to improve upon the fairness of the tax system when it comes to discretionary trusts.

The Government has announced the introduction of a 30% minimum tax on discretionary trusts from 1 July, 2028. This measure is not yet law, but if your business or family estate plan includes a discretionary trust, this might impact your future considerations.
