A “typical” day? It usually starts in court.

Then it’s straight into the part most people never see: pressure, responsibility, and decisions that affect real lives. In criminal defence, the stakes aren’t theoretical. Liberty is on the line, and being trusted to fight for the best possible outcome carries weight.

Just as important: doing it properly.

Reputation matters. Ethics matter. No shortcuts, no games, no lying, stealing, or cheating for anyone. Strong defence only works when it’s built on credibility.

And while plenty of lawyers live in paperwork, criminal lawyers spend a lot of time where it counts: in court, on the record, making the case.

Intervention order breaches aren’t always dramatic.

A lot of the time, it’s the “small” stuff that catches people out: a quick message, replying to a call, indirect contact, or ending up somewhere you weren’t meant to be under the conditions.

This carousel breaks down the common ways breaches happen in Victoria, and why the details (screenshots, timestamps, call logs) matter.

If an order affects you, getting advice early can make a real difference.

Pop culture has a lot to answer for.

Real criminal matters in Australia don’t play out like TV. There’s no dramatic “I object!” moment that flips the whole case, and there’s rarely a neat ending by Friday night.

What actually matters, early on, is protecting your position:

* If you’re arrested and taken into custody, ask to speak with a lawyer.
* Be careful about what you say in an interview, because it can be used later.
* understand that the system is slow and procedural — some matters can take months, even years to finalise

A few basics people should know:

- You have the right to remain silent
- You can ask for legal representation
- You’re entitled to be told why you’re being arrested
- You have the right to be treated with dignity and respect
- You can ask for the officer’s name and badge number/ID

Cooperate to a reasonable extent, but assert your rights firmly and respectfully.

Seda spends more time in the details than the spotlight.

Because in this work, outcomes are shaped long before anyone walks into court: what’s in the brief, what’s missing, what can be challenged, and what should never be assumed.

Clear advice. Strong preparation. No noise.
