We are proud of the talented team at NCL. These are two of the people who handle our medical negligence claims.

Both marked an anniversary with us this month, three years for Hannah and one for Natalie. Medical negligence claims at NCL are handled by people with the experience to run them properly and the patience to see them through. We consider it a privilege and a profound responsibility to represent people at their hardest moments. We will always strive to ensure you receive the best legal care possible, and fortunately, with people like Hannah and Nat, we have the team around us to ensure we do so.

Tom McKinnon, Principal and Medical Negligence Team Leader:

"Hannah and Natalie each bring something different to our medical negligence team, but what they have in common is an unwavering commitment to our clients. Medical negligence matters demand technical expertise, meticulous preparation and genuine compassion. They consistently deliver all three. I have complete confidence in them and the work they do every day, and they are both an integral part of what makes our team so successful."

Great outcomes begin with lawyers who combine skill with genuine care. Ade brings both to the NCL team.

Ade is a rising star within the WorkCover team, working alongside Managing Principal and Director Michael Tanner. This month Ade had the first six figure settlement of his career. Behind it was a client who had suffered significant injuries, in an accident which wasn’t their fault. Ade and Michael stood with the client every step of the way, providing straightforward advice and emotional support when they needed it most.

Ade: “What this client needed most was straightforward - clear advice and genuine care. And that is what I endeavoured to provide, every step of the way”

At NCL, every WorkCover client works directly with a lawyer. Ade is one of the dedicated lawyers guiding our clients through the process, and we are lucky to have him.

Every matter is different, and outcomes depend on the injuries, the evidence and the circumstances.

If you were at fault in a transport accident, you might assume you cannot make a TAC claim.

That is not necessarily the case.

Victoria’s TAC scheme is a no-fault scheme. This means eligible people may be able to claim treatment and support without having to prove that another person caused the accident.

Being at fault can affect whether you are entitled to pursue common law compensation, but it does not automatically prevent you from accessing the TAC scheme.

TAC claims are not limited to drivers, either. Passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and pillion passengers may also be eligible.
Principal Lawyer Amy Caldow explains who can make a TAC claim, what support may be available and why it is important to act within the relevant time limits.

August is Tradies National Health Month.

Tradies work in some of the most physically demanding trades, and injuries on site are common. If you are hurt at work, WorkCover is usually where your rights sit. It can cover weekly payments, medical and rehabilitation costs, and in some cases a lump sum for permanent impairment or a common law damages claim where negligence was involved.

Hurt on the job and unsure what you are entitled to? Call 1300 FEARLESS (1300 332 753) or visit nationalcompensationlawyers.com.au to speak directly to our WorkCover team. The first conversation is free. No win, no fee.* *Conditions apply.

A supermarket's obligation to find and clean a spill was not created by the fall. It was already there. So was a landlord's obligation to repair the staircase they were told about.

That is what a public liability claim actually asks. Did the person responsible for that space do what a reasonable person in their position would have done. Did they inspect it. Did they fix the hazard in reasonable time. Did they warn anyone.
Our new guide covers who can claim in Victoria, what compensation can cover, and what evidence carries a claim - https://nationalcompensationlawyers.com.au/what-is-a-public-liability-claim-victoria/

If you are living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome after a work injury, you already know how hard it can be to have the condition taken seriously. Because CRPS does not show up on a standard scan, many people are told the pain is exaggerated, or that it is not connected to their work.
This National Pain Week, Michael Tanner explains whether you can claim workers compensation for CRPS in Victoria, why these claims are often disputed, and the evidence that makes the difference.

Most people who come to us after a serious transport accident are not focused on a number. They are focused on recovery, on keeping up with the bills, and on whether the system will believe them.

This is one client's story, shared with his consent and kept anonymous. A healthcare worker in his early thirties, seriously injured in a transport accident caused by another driver. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, a spinal injury and a psychological injury, and at the start the TAC did not accept full liability, even though the other driver had been charged.

We stayed with him through all of it. We liaised directly with the TAC on his behalf, and provided supportive evidence early, until the TAC accepted full liability. We kept his income and medical support in place, and stood beside him as he read his victim impact statement in court. His claim resolved for $500,000 for pain and suffering and economic loss, without court proceedings being issued.

Every claim is different, and outcomes depend on the circumstances. But a hard starting point does not have to decide where things end.
