Wise in Paradise: First Nations Online Safety Resources initiative, developed by the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE), has launched.

This initiative brings a new suite of First Nations online safety resources, including two storybooks – The Wise Emu and the Digital Dingo in Paradise and the Digital Dingo in Paradise – with lesson plans and discussion guides, helping families and educators talk to children about staying safe online.

We’re proud of our firm’s connection to the ACCCE through Founder and Principal, Sally Nicholes, as a stakeholder of the ACCCE in her capacity as Deputy Chair of the World Congress on Family Law & Children’s Rights. Sally’s role is one that reflects her ongoing commitment to child safety at a national level.

September is Su***de Prevention Month.

Whilst supporting those around us should never be limited to a single month. At Nicholes Family Lawyers, we believe in the importance of open conversations about mental health, regularly checking in on one another, and advocating for greater awareness and action in the mental health space.

By making a conscious effort to look out for others, we can help create a culture where everyone feels valued, supported, seen, and heard.

We are thrilled to see the establishment of the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Advisory Council and congratulate all newly appointed members - including two people we know and greatly admire, Catherine Fitzpatrick and Connor Pall.

This Council will play a pivotal role in advising the government on the effectiveness of the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032 and shaping the critical Second Action Plan. Having members with such depth of experience, passion and commitment gives us great confidence in the work ahead.

At Nicholes Family Lawyers, ending domestic, family and sexual violence is something we care deeply about, and we look forward to following the Council's important work.

Nicholes Family Lawyers is a proud sponsor of the 2026 Geelong Youth Engagement (GYE) Kokoda Program, supporting a young person from the Bellarine and Surf Coast community on this life-changing journey.

More than 20 Geelong students have been selected to walk the 96-kilometre Kokoda Track next month. The students have spent the last 20 weeks training alongside an adult mentor from a local business, then they walk the track together in Papua New Guinea. The program's been running for over a decade, and a lot of graduates say it changed the direction of their lives.

Congratulations to our Head of Marketing & Client Engagement, Kylie Barnes, who is one of this year’s mentors embarking on this incredible journey. Kylie is seeing firsthand just how much of a difference her mentorship has made.
With the trek fast approaching, there’s still a chance to get involved and help create a lasting impact. Head to the link in our bio to donate through Kylie’s GoFundMe and give more students the chance to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Congratulations to our Principal Lawyer, Nadine Udorovic, who has been announced as a panellist at the Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Forum 2026.

Nadine will join Lauren Cassimatis (Principal Lawyer and Director, Gallant Law) and Belinda Cohen (CEO, Gilchrist Connell) for a session titled "Flexibility ROI: Moving from 'Perk' to Performance."

The motherhood penalty has been debated in the legal profession for two decades and this panel takes on the hard question of what it actually takes for working women and mothers to build and sustain careers in law, as well as what genuine flexibility looks like when it moves from a nice-to-have to a driver of performance.

The session will take place on Thursday 12 November 2026 at Crown Melbourne, Southbank.

Prevention happens in the every day.

It happens when we refuse to accept the attitudes, behaviours and excuses that enable violence against women.

It’s happening right now – when we collectively challenge what we know isn’t good enough, demand better and, importantly, ensure ‘better’ becomes the standard.

This is a pivotal moment for change.

With just three weeks until Kokoda, Nicholes Family Lawyers Head of Marketing and Client Engagement, Kylie Barnes, has completed a 18km beach hike as part of her build-up to Geelong Youth Engagement’s 96km Kokoda trek this September.

Every kilometre logged is helping Kylie prepare for the physical demands ahead, but the training is only part of the story. Along the way, she’s been building real relationships with the young people she’s mentoring, a reminder that this challenge is as much about connection and encouragement as it is about endurance.

Nicholes Family Lawyers is a proud sponsor of the 2026 Geelong Youth Engagement Kokoda Program, supporting a young person from the Bellarine and Surf Coast community on this life-changing journey.

With the trek fast approaching, there’s still a chance to get involved and help create a lasting impact. Head to the link in our bio to donate through Kylie’s GoFundMe and give more students the chance to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
