Great day for Elise Parker-Thomson and Haneen Haddad to attend the Law Society of South Australia’s CPD Forum yesterday.

We gained valuable insights across a range of important and timely topics, including an informative presentation from Associate Justice Katrina Bochner (Supreme Court of South Australia) and The Honourable Magistrate Anna Jackson, as well as a seminar on Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence: What we heard about the South Australian legal system.

A fantastic opportunity to learn, reflect, and engage with the profession.

As we wrap up another busy year at Thomson & Associates, we’d like to extend a sincere thank you to our wonderful clients and colleagues for your trust, support, and collaboration throughout the year.

We rounded out 2025 with a fantastic Christmas lunch at Pizzateca 🍕—great food and even better company.

Some highlights from the year:
✨ Sonika joined us as our Admin Assistant and has already made an outstanding impact, streamlining our systems and bringing energy and care to everything she does.
✨ Haneen was promoted to Senior Solicitor, a well-deserved milestone reflecting her continued dedication, expertise, and excellent work for our clients.
✨ Elly, our PLT student, joined us in early December, and we’re looking forward to mentoring her and supporting her as she begins her legal career.
✨ Elise crossed a major item off her bucket list, diving in Palau—an unforgettable adventure in one of the world’s most beautiful underwater destinations.

We’re proud of our team and grateful for another year of growth. Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing holiday season and a wonderful start to the year ahead.

💬 One of the most common questions we hear is:
“I’ve just separated… I don’t know where to start.”

It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed — but there are some practical steps you can take right away to help you feel more in control.

Here are our top 5 tips:

1️⃣ Get a clear picture of your finances.
Make a list of everything you own (home, car, bank accounts, investments, superannuation) and everything you owe (mortgage, loans, credit cards).

2️⃣ Gather important documents.
Before leaving the home, try to access copies of ID, bank statements, property documents, payslips, tax returns and super details, Marriage Certificates etc. These make the next steps much easier.

3️⃣ Stay calm and take your time.
You don’t need to make big decisions right away. Take care of yourself first — legal and financial steps can follow once you’re ready.

4️⃣ Keep communication respectful.
It helps reduce conflict and makes reaching an agreement smoother — especially if children are involved.

5️⃣ Get legal advice early.
Knowing your rights from the start helps you avoid mistakes and plan your next steps confidently.

We heard from four amazing women — Holly Little from Woman to Warrior, Helen Sampson from , Leanne Bawden from , and Sutchain Heap from who spoke about The B**b Project — a bold, initiative teaching women how to actually perform breasts self-checks and understand their bodies in a real, practical way. Such an important and empowering message 💗

We missed international dog day yesterday where we celebrate the loyal hearts and muddy paws that make life better. Meet Freya and Kody – Elise Parker-Thomson's four-legged companions, guardians of the farm, professional snack detectors, and expert cuddle providers.

Freya was a true office dog, until her little bro Kody turned up and took up all the space under Elise's desk. Now they stay home or play with their friends at the when Elise meets with clients in town or at Court.

Whether they're patrolling the paddock at home or napping like champs, they remind us daily of the joy and love only a dog can bring. Here's to all the good dogs out there – especially ours. ❤️🐶

This week, our office was brightened by a beautiful surprise — flowers from a client whose estate litigation matter recently came to a successful conclusion. A beautiful arrangement from Buds and Blooms.

Litigation, especially when it involves family and estates, is rarely easy. It takes resilience, patience, and trust to see it through. We were honoured to support our client during such a difficult time and to achieve an outcome that brought them relief and closure.

Gestures like this remind us why we do what we do — not just to navigate the law, but to walk alongside people through some of life’s hardest challenges.
