Early Friday mornings provide an opportunity to reflect on just how busy the last month has been. Entering our Portside office, there is a profound sense of perspective that only a building with this much history can provide. For over 150 years, these walls have watched the sun crest the Mary River, standing firm through a century and a half of changing times, tides and seasons.

Our dedication to this practice is rooted in a singular goal, helping individuals navigate the legal storm to find a sense of freedom and genuine peace. We view legal resolution not just as a series of steps in a case, but as the essential groundwork to help our clients gain a stable future.

Working long days, late nights and sometimes weekends carry a specific kind of gravity, but that often fades when the results take shape. There is a quiet satisfaction in seeing a client move from the paralysis of legal conflict into the clarity of a fresh start. Knowing that our advocacy and strategic thinking has provided the bridge to that new beginning makes these demanding weeks feel extremely purposeful.

As the morning light fills the office, we are reminded that while conflict in the legal sphere is common, it is often transitory and lasts only until it can be resolved or at least transformed to a manageable level. Our commitment to our clients and the broader community remains steadfast. To provide the steady hand and professional expertise required to transform legal challenges into outcomes.

We pride ourselves on being the team our clients can count on when things get tough. We don't just work normal office hours, we show up whenever our clients need us, making sure they have a reliable partner by their side during critical moments.

For us, this means we spend long days, late nights and time on weekends looking at every detail in our client’s cases. We also travel all across Queensland to be there in person for court or significant dispute resolution events. We believe that being there in the room is the best way to protect our clients at what is often a very stressful period in their lives.

People choose us because they need a law firm that works as hard as they do. They know that with our experience and hard work, we will provide the steady and calming guidance needed to allow them to move past any legal conflict and move on with their lives.

We are all working long hours right now to make sure cases move forward. Because we are so busy helping our current clients, we have had to again reduce our once off "advice only" appointments. We appreciate everyone being patient with us while we work through these significant existing commitments.

Our firm takes great pride in always showing up when it matters most. We don't just talk about helping, we actually roll up our sleeves and get the work done. We often deal in complex cases and we work hard to stay focused on reaching the finish line for our clients who count on us.

Dana is a great example of the hard work that happens behind the scenes every day. We know that legal issues can be stressful, so we work hard to take try to reduce that heavy weight from clients shoulders. Our goal is always to provide steady support and get the best results possible. We are proud of our team’s dedication and thankful for the chance to serve our community.

When entering the office in anticipation of a day of intense negotiations and significant workload, there is a powerful clarity to be found in the stillness of our historic streets. Walking past buildings that have stood firm for over a hundred years serves as a vital reminder of endurance. These landmarks have survived economic shifts, industrial changes and previous periods of global of unrest, standing as symbols of permanence. Standing strong beside our clients no matter how difficult or long the road ahead may be is something we pride ourselves on.

In times of uncertainty, finding a moment of silence to reflect is a strategic necessity, not a distraction. Resilience is built in these quiet intervals where you can filter out surrounding noise (whatever that may be) and reconnect with your core objectives. Taking that second to pause can be so important to allow one to move forward with composure and a clear head.

Running a farm or a small business is getting tougher with the rising price of fuel and other input costs. Every time the cost of diesel goes up, it impacts the price of moving and acquiring goods. These extra expenses can put a real strain on the monthly budget of a small to medium business and makes it harder to plan for the future. When you can’t get the fuel you need to run tractors, trucks or transport goods or stock, it creates a lot of stress.

Our farmers and truckies are at the heartbeat of this country, but right now, many are being pushed to the breaking point. It is heartbreaking to see families who have worked the land and roads for generations struggling just to keep the tanks full and the wheels turning.

Over the years, we have assisted many clients that own or operate primary production or small to medium businesses. For all of our clients in these sectors (past and present) just know we will continue stand proud with you and do what we can to keep your legal costs to a minimum in the event you have the added stress of facing legal conflict. We can only hope that Australian policymakers are giving this issue the urgent attention it requires for the benefit of all of us in the supply chain, including end of line consumers.

Watching fuel prices climb higher and higher every time you pull up to the fuel pump can make anyone feel a sense of dread about their weekly budget. Over the last seventy years, the price of oil has fluctuated. This has at times changed how we think about the vehicles we drive. Every time there is a major price spike, drivers start looking for more efficient ways to get around. Over time, this has shaped our history and what we choose to park in our driveways.

Here is a classic photo by R.G. Parry showing a man standing next to a tiny two door car at the old Maryborough Motor Centre. This image is a fascinating snippet from the R.G. Parry exhibition, which shows how both our vehicles and our attitudes toward motoring changed between the 1940s and the 1970s across the Fraser Coast. It’s a unique look at a time when even the smallest cars were a big part of the local landscape.

The exhibition at Gatakers Artspace is a wonderful way to see our local history through a camera lens. It captures everything from massive industrial machines to the simple cars families used for their weekend trips. It gives our community a chance to reflect on how much has changed in our towns and how we’ve always found a way to keep moving forward, no matter the challenges. Seeing these old photos reminds us that while the numbers at the pump might change, our local spirit stays the same.

This display is a free community event and the team at John Willett Lawyers is very proud to be a sponsor. We invite everyone to head down to the Portside precinct to take a walk through time and enjoy some incredible photography. It is a great opportunity to connect with Maryborough’s past and see how our world has evolved over the decades. The exhibition will run until 10 April 2026.

For decades, the Kent Street wrecking yard has long been a fixture of Maryborough’s industrial landscape. For years, it was a sprawling maze of steel where locals could spend hours hunting through rows of stacked wrecks for that one specific bracket, trim piece or engine part. That era of physical "yard picking" is rapidly fading as the industry shifts toward a digital first model. Today, the rise of online reproduction parts has largely replaced the need to climb over rusty shells in a packed wrecking yard, marking a significant change in how we maintain and restore our vehicles.

As the gates have now closed on the Kent Street wreckers, the site itself is undergoing a transformation. Instead of rows of weathered steel, the area is being repurposed to better serve the modern needs of Maryborough. It’s a transition from the mechanical past to a more community focused future, ensuring that these spaces evolve with us as a city as times change.

If you’re feeling nostalgic for that mid-century era, make sure to head down to Gatakers Artspace for the R.G. Parry exhibition, titled "A Life Through His Lens." Running all through March and into April, this curated collection by Glen David Wilson offers an incredible look at the Fraser Coast from the 1940s to the 70s. Parry’s photography captures the soul of Maryborough. From the bustling shipyards to the quiet moments of family life, it provides the perfect historical context for how much our local landscape and industry has changed over the years.

Choosing the right lawyer is a big decision and ease of location matters. Our office is located in the heart of the Portside Precinct in Maryborough, right inside one of Maryborough’s beautiful heritage buildings. Built way back in 1869, this historic space has a calm and solid presence. We love being part of the local history here on Wharf Street and our clients often feel that sense of peace the moment they walk through our doors.

We know that some law firm waiting rooms can feel cold, stiff and stressful. It’s hard to relax when you’re surrounded by fluorescent lights and uncomfortable chairs. Our office is different. We’ve designed our space to feel more like a welcoming home than a clinical office. We want you to feel at ease from the second you arrive, so you can focus on your future instead of feeling anxious about the building you're in.

When people first look for legal help, they often have two big fears: that the process will be way too complicated to understand, or that they might lose control of their own story. We work hard to take those fears away. We explain everything in plain English. No confusing "lawyer talk" and we make sure that our clients are the one in the driver's seat. Clients deserve to know exactly what is happening with their case every step of the way.

Our goal is to make every client feel comfortable as they start their journey toward freedom and peace. We don't just focus on the paperwork, we focus on the person. We help our clients start the next chapter of thier life with confidence.

The air in Maryborough still carries the memories of the sweet, nostalgic scent of the cane crushing season, a reminder of the vibrant energy that has defined our region for generations. There was a unique magic in the "white gold" era, when the rhythmic chug of steam locomotives on the cane lines signaled the start of a season that brought the entire community to life. From the bustling yards of the historic Bauple Sugar Mill to the sprawling networks of tramways connecting surrounding farms, the sugar cane industry was vital to Maryborough’s early development.

While some of those emerald green paddocks have since transitioned into new landscapes and are used for other purposes, the legacy of sugar cane remains set within the bedrock of our local history. The stories of the families who worked the land and the grit of the mill workers are woven into the very fabric of the Fraser Coast. Even as the industry evolves, we carry the memories of those busy crushing seasons fondly, celebrating a heritage of hard work and resilience that continues to shape who we are today.

To keep these memories alive, Gatakers Artspace is currently showcasing a collection of iconic images that capture the spirit of the industry. On display until April, these photographs offer a beautiful window into the soul of Maryborough, featuring the people and the machinery that helped build the sugar cane industry in our town. It is a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors alike to walk through the gallery and reconnect with the powerful visual history of the sugar industry.

John Willett Lawyers has a long history of assisting primary producers and those involved in heavy industry with navigating serious legal conflicts. This is why we are so proud to sponsor this exhibition showing the development of our region in photographs taken between the 1940’s and the 1970’s, ensuring it remains free of charge for everyone to attend. It is our way of honouring the enduring spirit of our local farmers and heavy industry, celebrating the rich history that we all share.
