If you are a first time home buyer or home owner, you may be eligible for a stamp duty exemption or concession under the First Home Buyer Assistance Scheme when purchasing a property in NSW.

To be eligible for this scheme, a purchaser must meet specific eligibility criteria including but not limited to criteria in relation to the type of property, living in the property, and residency requirements.

There are also purchase price thresholds that apply to this scheme (currently $800,000 to apply for a full exemption and up to $1 million to apply for a concessional (reduced) rate).

In addition to the purchase price, you should expect to pay additional costs at settlement including (but not limited to) stamp duty, a share of council rates, water rates and strata levies for the settlement period, legal fees and disbursements, Land Registry Services registration fees, PEXA settlement fees and bank fees. Planning for these costs in advance will save you stress at settlement!
