In June 2018 the Australian Government launched negotiations for a comprehensive and ambitious Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European-Union (EU).

As part of the agreement, the EU are asking for Australia to protect a list of EU geographical indications (GIs). The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade are seeking submissions in a public objections process to identify Australian industry and stakeholder interests and objections to the protection of the list of EU GIs.

For information on the Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement, the public objections process, including the terms the EU is seeking protection for and to file your objection please visit the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website.

Submissions should be lodged with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade by 13 November 2019.

Information about the protection of GIs in Australia is available on the IP Australia website.
