Last night we celebrated the launch of Issue 49(1) of the UNSW Law Journal!

We were delighted to have the Honourable Justice Craig Lenehan of the Federal Court of Australia deliver the keynote address on the theme ‘The Day After: Developing the Law following Landmark Events’. Our thanks go to Corrs Chambers Westgarth for hosting the event.

Congratulation to Issue Editor, Grace Leow, our contributing authors and our Editorial Board Members for their efforts in producing this Issue.

We would also like to specially thank Professor Rosalind Dixon, who is concluding her tenure as Faculty Advisor. The Journal is incredibly grateful for her many years of expertise and support and wishes her all the best.

New to the Forum: Seung Chan Rhee, Journal Alumni as former Issue Editor of 43(4), uncovers a relatively unknown case decided in New South Wales in the early 20th century – Wing v Kensit (1921) 21 SR (NSW) 464. Despite its vintage, it is a decision which ought to be of general interest to practitioners and academics in the field of discrimination law.

New to the Forum: Matthew Blundell uncovers DZY (a pseudonym) v Trustees of the Christian Brothers (‘DZY’), concerning the scope of power conferred by section 27QE(1) of the Limitation of Actions Act 1958 (Vic). DZY represents the High Court’s first opportunity to consider what is colloquially referred to as a ‘deed-reopening’ case, the offspring of legislation enacted by state and territory parliaments out of recommendations made by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

New to the Forum: Chris Martin traces Gough Whitlam’s career in tenancy law, from practitioner in the early post-war period, to the progenitor of law reform in the 1970s. Whitlam’s career illustrates significant aspects of the development of Australian tenancy law through the eras of rent control, decontrol, and the Residential Tenancies Acts, as well as changes in the professional status of tenancy law practitioners.
