ARM OUT of the window in a car- Is it ILLEGAL ?
In AUSTRALIA, it is illegal to have any body part protruding from the vehicle, even if you simply have your elbow poking out further than the boundary of the car. Some states do allow you to stick an arm out of the window if you are making a hand signal; a common practice before indicators . The fine amounts and definition of the rule vary state by state, but the crux is that it is illegal in all states.
HOW ABOUT QUEENSLAND ??
Queensland follows the same regulations as VIC and NSW, prohibiting drivers and their passengers from having body parts out of the window aside from making hand signals. Unfortunately, not adhering to this rule will carry a $311 and three-demerit-point fine.

The PARKING ACCIDENT CAPITAL of Australia ?
Youi Insurance analysed insurance trends between November 2024 and November 2025 , and South Australia topped the list of all Australian states and territories with parking-related accidents, followed by New South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland, and in last place, or first for safety - Australian Capital Territory (1.4 per cent) recorded the lowest rate of parking accidents.
SHOPPING CENTRES have the highest rates of car collisions
Densely populated areas such as shopping centres are a hothouse for parking accidents. AAMI Insurance found more than 17,000 car park claims between 1 September 2024 and 31 August 2025. The most common accidents ? Drivers colliding with another parked vehicle (40 per cent) or hitting stopped objects like trolleys and bollards. According to Drive magazine, in December 2025, Doncaster on Victoria, was once again crowned Australia’s top shopping centre for car park collisions last year.
Which are the WORST TIMES & DAYS ?
Australia-wide, Fridays was the most accident-prone day according to Youi data, with a 15.8 per cent accident rate occurring at the end of the working week. We have long known about the mid-week fog, and Wednesdays weren’t too far behind (15.45 per cent), while Thursdays (15.39 per cent) and Tuesdays (14.89) were also among the most hazardous days to drive.
Yes, the after-school pick-up is the most dangerous time to drive a vehicle. According to Youi, 3:00pm “showed the highest shares of daily accidents, standing out more than any other hour”.“[It's] that moment when traffic spikes, kids spill out of classrooms, and everyone seems to be on the move."

Three times as many males die on Queensland roads

RACQ has launched a thought-provoking road safety campaign to raise awareness of the disproportionate number of men killed on the State’s roads. With three times more males dying on Queensland roads than females*, RACQ’s Blooms for Blokes campaign urges people to reach out to the men in their lives and remind them why it’s important they stay safe on the road.

RACQ’s General Manager Advocacy Joshua Cooney said the campaign kicked off in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall on 22 August as part of Queensland Road Safety Week. “Blooms for Blokes centres on the idea that too often, the first time men receive flowers is at their funeral,” Mr Cooney said.

“We want to invite Queenslanders to gift the men in their lives a flower while they’re alive, tell them how much they’d be missed if they were gone, and motivate them to be safe on the road. In the past five years 995 males died on Queensland roads, compared to 317 females, so we need men to rethink their driving behaviour and stay safe for their loved ones.”

“We believe there are a range of factors driving the statistics."

"Generally, men are more likely to engage in risky behaviour which significantly increases the chance of a serious crash. Men are also more likely to be behind the wheel of a heavy vehicle or riding a motorcycle and these are two groups that make up a significant proportion of the road toll.

“In the Queen Street Mall, one of our RACQ vintage patrols was filled with 995 flowers to represent the male road toll. People were urged to collect a flower, sign a Blooms for Blokes card and gift it to a man to remind them to stay safe behind the wheel.”

Last year, Queensland recorded its worst road toll in 13 years with 297 people killed. It was the highest of any state or territory in Australia.

The Blooms for Blokes campaign was rolled out across Queensland with flowers and cards available to collect from all RACQ stores during Queensland Road Safety Week, and billboards amplifying the message in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Gladstone and Mackay.

A dedicated Blooms for Blokes landing page allows people to send a virtual card to their loved ones and spread the road safety message.

*Department of Transport and Main Roads data from 1 January 2018 – 31 December 2022.

“I really, really appreciated Injury & Accident Lawyers’ help with my car accident case. It was a horrible and painful accident, but I felt secure because of the good care and protection from my lawyers and their team.”
