A few weeks late, but what a delight it is to welcome Lizzie Arnold to the Monk Lawyers team! A massive congratulations to Catherine Scott from Con Moto Group for winning the coveted Presidents Award at the Opening of the Legal Year Dinner on Friday night. Catherine’s contribution to the law through her advocacy and in delivering 44 (!!!) Sexual Harassment workshops to the legal profession has been incredible, and her speech on Friday was truly inspirational and received a well deserved standing ovation.

Monk Lawyers are thrilled to introduce a third lawyer to the team. Olivia McKee joins us as a 2024 graduate of the Tasmanian Legal Practice Course. She has appeared regularly in the Magistrates Court, and has developed a passion for criminal law. Olivia will be representing clients in the Magistrates and Supreme Courts, and is ready to hit the ground running. Olivia will be taking on new private and legally aided clients. Welcome Olivia!

International Women’s Day has caused me to reflect on all of the truly inspirational women who I have been mentored by and worked with in my career to date. When I started my career in South Australia, I was so lucky to have some wonderful women around me who built me up and helped me through those early career moments. I was then beyond lucky to have the privilege to work at Tasmanian Legal Aid, surrounded by strong, incredible, trail blazing women who taught me so much. When I decided to leave TLA and start my own firm, I sought out the advice of so many people who I have such enormous respect for, and it is no coincidence that almost all of them were women – from members of the judiciary to senior barristers, to my talented and supportive friends and colleagues. I consider myself lucky to be part of this profession.
