📸 Flashback Friday

From schoolyards to family farms, generations of locals have grown up alongside the irrigation network, shaping the story of our region. Here's a glimpse of the children of the MIA, from close to 100 years ago.

Construction is ramping up on Stages 3 and 4 of the Urban Channel Pipeline Project in Griffith and Leeton.

As construction progresses, we’re continuing to work closely with local authorities to help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.

If you're travelling through these areas, please take care around construction zones and follow all pedestrian and traffic management directions.

This project is supported by $62.2 million in Commonwealth funding and is being delivered in partnership with the NSW Government under the Australian Government’s Resilient Rivers Water Infrastructure Program.

This morning, our team joined fellow cold-plungers from Griffith Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Griffith City Council and the Griffith community for the Daffodil Day Dip.

Despite the icy conditions (and a few questionable life choices being reconsidered 🥶), we were proud to help raise more than $2,200 for Cancer Council research.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported us. Together, we're helping fund research that makes a real difference. 💛

Recently, we visited the Leeton Shire Mens Shed, one of the recipients of funding through MI's Community Grants Program, to see firsthand the difference a community grant can make.

With support from the program, the Shed purchased an electric forklift, creating a safer working environment for its members, many of whom are in their 70s. The forklift reduces the need for heavy lifting, helping members continue the repair, restoration and community projects they enjoy while staying safe and active.

The Leeton Men's Shed is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting men's mental health by providing a welcoming place to connect, share skills and contribute to the community. Its members come from a wide range of employment backgrounds, including a strong representation of retired irrigators who are keen to stay active, share their knowledge and keep busy in retirement.

From building garden beds and creating props for school productions to crafting toys from scratch and restoring furniture, members work on a wide range of projects that make a meaningful difference across the region.

They're also keen to welcome new members. Men aged 18 and over are encouraged to get involved, with no experience necessary and plenty of opportunities to learn along the way. For contact details, visit the Leeton Men's Shed page.

Check out our video to hear from the members and see some of the incredible work happening at the Leeton Men's Shed. 👇

Meet Robert Carden, our Manager Information Technology 👋

Rob leads a team that plays a big role in ensuring our systems run smoothly and securely, for our team and our customers.

From the tech tools we use every day to the systems that support our customers, much of what we do at MI relies on the work Rob and his team do behind the scenes.

Outside of work, Rob enjoys spending time with his sons, volunteering with local shooting clubs and ranges, staying active and taking his motorcycle out for a ride.

Here’s what he has to say about his time at MI...

✨Flashback Friday
Capturing a defining moment in the history of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area.

👉 The first image shows the official "turning on of the water" ceremony at Yanco in 1912, marking the beginning of irrigation water delivery to the region.

👉 The second image was taken 100 years later during a 2012 re-enactment of this historic milestone, which MI was proud to be a part of.

More than a century on, the vision that helped transform this region continues to flow through our communities, farms and industries. 💧

Take a look at some of the recent channel rebuild works completed by our maintenance team. 🦺

These works involve core trenching and reforming the channel batter to help maintain the integrity of our water delivery system, ensuring water can continue to be delivered safely and reliably when and where it's needed.
