The newly announced 2026–27 Australian Migration Planning Levels. The strategy has completely shifted, and you need to pivot your strategy right now.
While the overall migration cap remains flat, the government is moving away from regional pathways and putting a massive focus on onshore applicants and independent skilled streams. Here is where the seats are actually going:
🔥 THE BIG WINS:
Employer-Sponsored Visas: An absolute game-changer with 14,040 MORE seats! (Up from 44,000 to 58,040). If you have a boss willing to back you, this is your golden ticket. ✅
189 Skilled Independent Visa: Up by 4,190 seats. Independent points-tested applicants are getting a major boost. ✅
State Nomination (190) Visas: Up by 2,500 seats. State pathways remain incredibly strong. ✅
⚠️ THE PLOT TWIST:
Regional Visas (sc491 / 494): Slashed by a massive 18,890 seats (from 33,000 down to just 14,110). Moving regional is no longer the "easy route."

💡 THE TAKEAWAY?
The government is reserving nearly 130,000 places specifically for people already inside Australia to clear the temporary visa backlog. If you have an employer willing to sponsor you, or if you are building up points for a 189/190 visa, you are in an incredibly strong position!
