Did you know that Mediation or Court are not the only options to resolve a family law dispute? Many family lawyers work together to help their clients reach an agreement. This could be from simply picking up the phone and having a conversation to narrow issues to having a ‘round table’ discussion where the lawyers with their clients sit together to work through the dispute and work on a resolution.
A mediator doesn’t necessarily need to be involved if the lawyers are collaborative. Our lawyers are always ready to engage in a collaborative process as a first option to save our clients costs and time. If you would like to learn more call us on 46337800 or email [email protected]

In April we ran our 3rd CPD By The Sea event in Phuket, Thailand. Our event focused on wellbeing for lawyers particularly those practising family law. This area of law is emotional, challenging and quite frankly exhausting at times. The rates of burnout amongst family lawyers are at an extreme high. Our event brings lawyers together to focus on collaboration and a ‘reset’ so they can continue to bring high quality service to those clients who need it most.

The Federal Budget promised to look after those doing it tough but for Australians who need legal help to escape family violence, protect their children, or defend their rights against government decisions, justice remains out of reach.

The chronic underfunding of legal assistance services has been left unaddressed. As a result, from 1 July 2026, Legal Aid NSW will be forced to turn away anyone seeking help with parenting, property or enforcement proceedings, unless they are a victim of domestic and family violence or an Aboriginal person. Independent Children’s Lawyers will now also not receive funding to appear at a final hearing.

This news will increase delays, inefficiencies and miscarriages of justice. Parties with access to funds will be clearly at an advantage.

There are some funding options for families going through litigation which may support some people if eligible. If you need help in applying for funding, reach out to our firm and we can help you apply.

Today we attended the Federal Circuit and Family Court in Parramatta for a Compliance and Readiness Hearing, a court event designed to ensure matters are prepared to proceed toward final hearing, including checking procedural compliance, evidence readiness and whether settlement remains possible.

Our client filed in April 2025. Their final hearing is listed for November 2026.

That’s more than 18 months waiting for resolution in a matter affecting real lives and families. After the trial we will likely wait months for the Judge to deliver their final decision.

Delays in family law proceedings can carry significant emotional and financial costs.

Where possible, resolving disputes through mediation can provide a faster, more practical path forward as you can have more control over the outcome. Unfortunately with litigated cases, you will be in a queue with thousands of other families hoping for finalisation.

We offer mediations in our office or online. We can also offer you representation and support if you are attending a mediation. Contact our experienced team to discuss how we can help you.

“After decades in family law, one thing is clear, there’s nothing trivial about it.

I’ve sat across from people at their most vulnerable, making decisions about their children, their homes, and their future.

This is serious work. It requires judgment, experience, and respect.

That’s how it should be handled.”
Sean Cahill, Special Counsel.

A lot of lawyers are warning clients against the use of AI - but we know you’re probably going to use it anyway! For anyone consulting with ChatGPT or other AI platforms, the most important tip we can give you is do not upload personal documents or give identifying information.

Most AI systems store your conversations, use them to train future models, and are vulnerable to data breaches or insider access. What you type today could be out there tomorrow.

Protect yourself. Share nothing sensitive.
Your privacy is worth more than a quick answer and remember to always check for accuracy with your lawyer.
