Last week, members of the Tonkin Legal Group team, St.John Heath, Ash Soklevski and Joe Charbine, attended the Law Australasia 2026 SIG Conference in Adelaide, participating in the Family Law & Estates Stream under the theme “Practising in 2026 and Beyond.”
The conference brought together practitioners from across Australia to discuss emerging trends, evolving client expectations, and the future of practice in family law and estate planning.
A particular highlight was Joe Charbine’s presentation of a case study on Meint & Lyall [2026] FedCFamC1A 24. The case considered the valuation of a minority shareholding in a private company within family law property proceedings and confirmed that a theoretical valuation may not reflect the practical reality of what an asset is worth where shareholder agreements significantly restrict its transfer or sale.
We are proud to see our team continuing to contribute to the profession, share knowledge, and remain at the forefront of developments in family law and estates.
Thank you to Law Australasia for hosting another outstanding conference.
