The NSW Skilled Nominated Visa program is now accepting eligible candidates for consideration through SkillSelect.

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR STUDENT VISA HOLDERS IN AUSTRALIA! 🇦🇺

Effective 2 October 2026, the previous 28-day window after Student Visa expiry no longer applies to certain Student Visa applications.

⚠️ What does this mean?

Dati, may 28-day period ang ilang Student Visa holders para makapag-apply ulit ng Student Visa kahit expired na ang kanilang visa.

Under the new rules, hindi na applicable ang dating 28-day window na ito.

If your Student Visa expires and you don’t hold another valid visa, you may become unlawful in Australia.

🚨 STUDENT VISA UPDATE: WHO MAY QUALIFY FOR AN ONSHORE EXEMPTION?

From 2 October 2026, current Student visa holders generally need to be outside Australia to lodge another Student visa — unless they meet one of the limited exemption criteria.

You may still be able to apply while in Australia if you:

• need up to 12 more months to complete your current main course and continue with the same education provider
• are sponsored by DFAT or Defence
• are applying to study a PhD
• are applying for primary or secondary school studies
• have completed your main course and are progressing to a course at a higher AQF level
• completed school studies and are progressing to a course without an AQF level
• completed a non-AQF course and are progressing to a course with an AQF level
• cannot continue your course because your education provider has defaulted.

📌 Important: If you completed a higher education course, your next course must also be a higher education course delivered by a higher education provider for the progression exemption to apply.

Not everyone studying in Australia will qualify for an exemption, so it is important to check your current visa, completed course, proposed course and AQF level before lodging.

🚨 AUSTRALIA STUDENT VISA UPDATE

Effective 2 October 2026, mas mahigpit na ang rules para sa ilang Student Visa (Subclass 500) applications made onshore.

Sa maraming cases, hindi na basta-basta puwedeng mag-lodge ng panibagong Student Visa habang nasa Australia, lalo na para sa Student → Student applications, maliban kung pasok sa specific exemptions.

📌 May exemptions pa rin para sa certain applicants at circumstances.
📌 Mas mahigpit din ang rules sa course progression at eligibility.
📌 Applications validly lodged before 2 October 2026 are not affected by these amendments.

Kung nagpa-planong mag-extend ng studies, mag-change course, o mag-apply ulit ng Student Visa, importanteng i-check muna kung pasok sa current rules at exemptions.

May bagong restrictions sa pagdagdag ng dependants para sa karamihan ng international students sa Australia.

Pero hindi kasama ang Pilipinas sa general restriction dahil kabilang ang Philippines sa ASEAN exception. Ibig sabihin, maaaring payagan pa rin ang eligible Filipino student visa holders na magdala o magdagdag ng family members, subject sa applicable visa requirements.

🇦🇺 AUSTRALIA MIGRATION UPDATE | 17 SEPTEMBER 2026

Big migration changes have been announced in Australia, with a stronger focus on visa compliance, reducing visa hopping, and managing temporary migration.

Here are some of the key updates:

🔹 Visitor Visas – Most visitor visas are expected to carry a “No Further Stay” condition, limiting onshore visa switching.

🔹 International Students – Changes are planned around adding family members to student visas, with some exceptions expected to apply.

🔹 Course Changes – Students changing courses may need to apply for a new visa, and progression will generally be toward a higher qualification level.

🔹 Working Holiday Makers – A ballot system and annual caps are planned for second- and third-year Working Holiday visas.

🔹 Skilled Migration – Priority will be strengthened for key sectors including healthcare, construction, agriculture, fisheries and teaching.

🔹 Visa Overstayers – Australia will increase compliance and enforcement activity for people who remain after their visa expires.

📌 Some measures may be introduced through existing government powers, while others may still require legislation. More details and commencement dates are expected to follow.
