palipana was the guest speaker at the Gold Coast District Law Association AGM. Dinesh openly shared with us the difficulties in growing up in Sri Lanka, the importance and power of education,
the challenges of his disability, his depression and his change in career (from lawyer to doctor). He also told us of his love for lamingtons ! π¦πΊ
But, for me, in listening to his journey, the underlying message was overwhelmingly about the power of gratitude.
My key takeaway points were:
πGratitude is a big part of being happy
πDonβt get caught up in the daily grind or what others are doing β figure out your WHY and purpose and pursue that
πSqueeze every drop out of everyday β you never know what is waiting around the corner
πLive a full life, and in doing so make sure you fill other peopleβs cup
πIn our work, we all have the opportunity to make people feel safe and hopeful. People remember how we speak to them, even if they donβt remember what we did for them.
Mia Behlau stepped down as President after serving for 3 years, Miaβs dedication to her role as President and commitment is one which we are all grateful for. We welcomed Dean Evans as the new President. π€
Thank you to for your ongoing support of the GCDLA and to the GCDLA sponsor, for working with us. ππ»
It was wonderful to also raise nearly $3000 in raffle prize money for , thanks to all the great people and businesses who so generously donated those prizes.β
I hope to be able to serve on the GCDLA committee for another year so that we can continue to bring great speakers and events to our local profession. Sharing stories is one of the most powerful way to connect, create resilience and encourage wellness.ππΌββοΈβΊοΈβοΈ
