It hasn’t. Bail isn’t about guilt at all. In the video, Stef explains what a court actually weighs when someone is waiting for their matter to be heard, and why a refusal says nothing about the outcome.

It’s a side of the justice system most people only see from the outside.

Most people know about child support. Far fewer know that an ex-partner can also be required to support them.

Spousal maintenance is about one person's own needs, not the kids'.

Under the Family Law Act, a former partner can be liable to maintain the other if that person can't reasonably support themselves, for example because they're caring for young children, because of their age or health, or because they've been out of the workforce for years. The other side of it is capacity: the court looks at whether the paying partner can reasonably afford it.

It sits alongside the property settlement. It's not an alternative to it. It can be paid regularly for a period, or dealt with as a lump sum.

It's not automatic and it's not for everyone. But the people who'd most likely qualify, often the partner who stayed home, are usually the ones least likely to have heard of it.

"Will I get bail?" is usually the first question after a serious charge, and there's no single answer, the court's weighing a handful of factors, not just how serious the charge looks on paper.

That includes the offence and its maximum penalty, sure, but also your history, your ties to the area, home, work, family, and whether there's a genuine risk you won't show up, might reoffend, or could interfere with witnesses.

For some charges the starting point actually flips: instead of the prosecution having to justify keeping you in custody, you may need to justify why you should be released. That's a real difference in how the application gets run.

A bail hearing often shapes the rest of the matter more than people expect. It's not just a formality on the way to "the real case."

A lot of small business owners treat a lease renewal like a rubber stamp. It isn't. It's a fresh negotiation, and the terms can move more than people expect.

Start with whether you actually have an enforceable right to renew, or just a clause where the landlord "will consider it." Those are two very different positions to be in.

Know how the rent gets reviewed too, a fixed increase, tied to CPI, or reset to market rent. Market reviews especially can swing hard in either direction.

Make-good clauses decide who pays to restore the space when you eventually leave, fit-outs, signage, partition walls. Get clarity on that before you sign, not when you're already moving out.

And check whether outgoings are capped. An uncapped clause means council rates, insurance and building management fees can climb with no ceiling on them.
