Australian family law treats pets as property, no custody orders, no "best interests of the animal." Just who paid and who's on the microchip. But change is coming ⚖

If your employer has said "we'll sort your pay soon" more than once, that's not a mistake. That's a pattern.
And under the Fair Work Act, it can mean fines, prison time, and a compensation claim against them. Here's exactly what to do when your employer stalls on underpayment. 🔗

Your employer keeps promising to fix your pay but never follows through. Here's what that stalling actually means legally and what rights you have.

🌏 Can't find a skilled Australian worker for a critical role? You may be able to sponsor a worker from overseas under the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa.

Here's how it works:
The process has three distinct steps:

Step 1: Become an approved Standard Business Sponsor
✅ Your business must be lawfully operating in Australia
✅ You must have a genuine need for the role
✅ You must demonstrate financial capacity to support the position
✅ No adverse business background or compliance history

Step 2: Nominate the position
✅ The role must appear on the Skilled Occupation List
✅ You must conduct Labour Market Testing, advertising the role for at least 4 weeks to show no suitable Australian worker is available (unless exempt)
✅ The salary must meet the relevant income threshold (currently $73,150 for Core Skills stream)

Step 3: The worker applies for the visa
✅ They must have relevant skills, qualifications and experience
✅ English language and health/character requirements apply
✅ Processing times vary but are typically 1–3 months

What employers need to understand:
⚠️ Your sponsorship obligations don't end when the visa is granted
⚠️ You must employ the worker in the nominated occupation for the duration
⚠️ You must pay the agreed salary and keep proper records
⚠️ If the worker leaves or their role changes, you must notify Home Affairs within 28 days
⚠️ Obligations continue for 2 years after sponsorship ends

The risk of getting it wrong:
Breaching sponsorship obligations can result in sanctions, civil penalties, and being barred from sponsoring workers in the future. It can also put the worker's visa at risk, even when they've done nothing wrong.

💰 Business owners, superannuation is changing and you cannot afford to get this wrong.

What's changing from 1 July 2026:

❌ The old system: You had up to 28 days after the quarter ends to pay super
✅ The new system: Super must be paid at the same time as wages, and it must hit the employee's fund within 7 business days.

Why this matters:
⚠️ Miss the deadline and you're not just late, you could be in breach of the Fair Work Act
⚠️ Employees will see their super landing in near real time, so if something's off, they'll know immediately
⚠️ This isn't a payroll tweak, it's a system overhaul

What you need to do right now:

📋 Check your payroll system can handle more frequent super payments
📋 Review your super calculations, if your system is still set up for "ordinary time earnings," there's a real risk you're underpaying
📋 Make sure your cash flow can handle paying super every pay cycle, not quarterly
📋 Talk to your accountant and payroll provider before July

The risk of getting it wrong:
From July 2026, late super payments aren't just an ATO compliance issue. They're an employment law issue. And employees will be watching.
