A question we get a lot about child support is "why should I have to pay child support when I have my kids 50/50?" This is because child support payments are for the kids (not your ex). Where there's a big disparity in income between the parents, kids shouldn't have to go from eating lobster dinners to tinned beans every other week. The Department of Human Services has a handy calculator online to help parents figure out the child support they are liable to pay or are entitled to.

Yesterday it became an offence for any adult not to report sexual offending against a child by another adult to police. This used to only be an offence for certain people, but now any person failing to report will face up to 3 years in prison. A long overdue strengthening of our laws to protect children.

A new law makes it a crime not to report a reasonable belief of sexual offending against a child in the absence of a reasonable excuse.
