People of Dunkley...

Claire spoke to a couple of your by-election candidates this week.

All eight candidates were invited to chat. The Greens and Libertarian Party candidates tried, but didn't quite get there.

Today we celebrate the incredible women who have driven our growth over the years. They have empowered and inspired us, a predominantly female team, to help members of our community navigate complex interactions with the legal system in a safe and inclusive way.
It can be tempting, as recipients of incredible privilege, to become complacent, to believe that gender equity has been achieved, and that our work in this sphere is done.
But even within our community, women continue to face daily disadvantage. In boardrooms and workplaces, in schools, on sporting fields, and within homes, gender inequality continues to render women vulnerable. This is compounded for women who face additional challenges due to age, disability, aboriginality, cultural diversity, sexuality or gender identification and myriad of other possible factors.
Advocates from within these more marginalised communities continue to fight hard, and it is not our place to speak on their behalf. But we do have a role, as holders of positions of relative power, and of basically every privilege other than gender.
So as we recognise what has been achieved, we reflect on what we can do in our lives and our work to further progress to a community free from gender based bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
Happy International Women’s Day 2023!

Following Melbourne Cup weekend, Emergency Services and Domestic Violence support services are preparing for a potential increase in the demand for emergency and respite response.

The ABC explores the complex link between major sporting events and increased rates of domestic violence in Australia.

Not everyone looks forward to the Melbourne Cup. Domestic violence and emergency services ready themselves for a potential increase in calls, call-outs and admissions — and alcohol is just one reason why.
