Davey Law

Davey Law Davey Law specialises in all aspects of family law. We are located in the Eaton Central Shopping Centre at Eatons Hill, with ample parking.

Our Principal, Yvonne Davey, has practised in family law since 1998. Yvonne has wide experience in the complex issues which make up the field of relationship law including property matters, parenting and children’s issues, de facto matters and pre-nuptial agreements. Yvonne’s philosophy for Davey Law is to provide sound legal advice and excellent service to clients at an affordable price. Our Soli

citor, Ashlee Cameron, undertook her legal studies following some years in front-line social work, including support for victims of domestic violence. In that former career, she saw first-hand the difficulties and heartache that confront some people, and the critical need for strong advocacy on their behalf. Her commitment to the notion of advocacy ultimately led her to undertake a Law Degree, which she completed with Honours. With that background, Ashlee is very mindful of the distress that many of our clients are suffering as they grapple with the complex issues that bring them through our door. Our Paralegal, Lauren Spackman has a wealth of experience having worked in a wide variety of roles in several legal firms. Although familiar with other areas of legal practice, Lauren’s special interest is in family law and the opportunities it provides for assisting people experiencing relationship breakdown. She is well-qualified, with diplomas in Community Services, Management and Legal Services, and is currently studying for a Bachelor of Laws degree.

Did you know the Family Law Act is being amended?

Changes will come into effect on 10 June 2025 including:

1. Easing of the requirements to attend a Court hearing if you are filing a sole application for Divorce;
2. Removing the requirement to attend counselling if you have been married for less than two years and are seeking a Divorce;
3. Changes to the way that family violence is considered by the Court and the impact this has on property settlement;
4. Family pets are now defined as “companion animals” and the Court can make Orders in relation to the ownership of your family pet; and
5. The Court will now consider the issue of “wastage” which occurs when one party intentionally or recklessly reduces the property pool prior to distribution.

These changes will apply to all new and existing proceedings (except where a final hearing has commenced) even if your application was filed prior to 10 June 2025.

It is important you seek expert legal advice to understand how these changes will impact you.

We have not been active on Facebook for some time, but now feel that the time is right for us to re-join the Facebook community!

Be assured that we are still the same firm, we are still located in the Eaton Central Centre (behind the 7-Eleven service station), and we are still providing a full range of family law services to our valued clients! And Yvonne Davey is still the Principal – she has now notched up some 26 years in family law!

As would be expected, we have had changes in staff over the years. We were fortunate when Ashlee Cameron joined us – she is a well-qualified family lawyer who also has a background in social work including domestic violence issues, and who fully understands the difficulties and heartache confronting people when relationships break down.

We are also very pleased to welcome Georgia Brinkworth as the third family lawyer in our team. She has chosen to work in family law because of her strong motivation towards making a practical difference in the lives of people experiencing relationship breakdown. Georgia has a particular interest in children’s matters, and has a compassionate and supportive approach in her interactions with clients.

Our other key person is Lauren Spackman who fulfils the dual roles of Paralegal and Office Secretary within our firm. She has a wealth of experience in both functions, having worked in a wide variety of roles in several legal firms. Lauren has diplomas in Community Services, Management, and Legal Services.

Davey Law provides the full range of family law services, and that’s all we do – we specialise in just that one area of law. So if you have any concerns about a family relationship issue, please do not hesitate to contact us on (07) 3325 3378 to take advantage of our obligation-free initial consultation – you will be able to discuss your concerns and ascertain where you stand legally.
