Today our Principal Solicitor Amy Lonsdale achieved a great result in Condobolin, NSW.

Reflecting on the matter after Court, Amy says, “There is no matter before the Courts which does not matter to us. They’re all important matters, whether it’s a murder trial in the Supreme Court or a sentence in Condobolin Local Court the process and outcomes have a profound impact on everyone involved. We are acutely aware of that, and the work we do matters to us, and is why we are committed to providing services to the Western Region. This was a fantastic result in terms of penalty, but for me ensuring my clients vulnerabilities were acknowledged and catered for within the process - that was equally as important to me, and that’s what we achieved here.”

Maher Lonsdale Legal spent 6 months fighting for the result achieved today. The withdrawal of all proceedings against our client was the result of a considerable amount of work, including providing the NSW Police with irrefutable and exculpatory evidence that showed not only was our client not guilty of the conduct charged, but that it was in fact the complaining party who engaged in the conduct alleged.

At the conclusion of the matter our Principal Lucy Maher says, “This was one of those matters in which, in my view, a finding of guilt would have been an extraordinary miscarriage of justice. I am grateful for our client’s clear instructions which meant we could coherently defend the matter but also for the pragmatic Police Prosecutor who saw the case for what was.”

We are glad to have achieved a just result for our client today.

Another strong result achieved by one of our Principal Solicitors earlier this week.

‘High Range PCA’ (or high range drink driving) is a category of offending to which a guideline Judgement relates, and typically attracts a sentence of imprisonment. In this case, the Court assessed the matter as being at the high end of objective seriousness, with the Judge categorising the matter among the most serious examples of its kind. Despite this, we successfully secured an Intensive Corrections Order, allowing our client to serve their sentence in the community under strict conditions. Our firms carefully prepared case and considered advocacy made a meaningful difference to the outcome of this clients case. We are pleased to have achieved this result for them.

Alongside her law degree our Principal solicitor, Lucy Maher, achieved a Bachelors of Arts majoring in Applied Psychology. This qualification has equipped her well to advocate for clients who engage the jurisdiction of the Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment Forensic Provisions Act 2020. Lucy has a long history of appearing for some of the most vulnerable defendants in Western NSW, and she is well known for her empathetic but direct communication and advocacy.
