The City of Bunbury is set to sign a joint venture agreement with Scott Park Homes to build 53 houses on the site of the old Punchbowl caravan park in South Bunbury.

The details of the major land transaction will be released in a business case that will be out for public comment.

What is known is that the beach-side residential estate would include about 53 new houses, including some ready-built.

The City of Bunbury said it was a significant step for the Punchbowl site, which has been vacant for nearly 25 years, and tied up by "complex site restraints".

The long-awaited housing project has a targeted delivery date of two to three years.

The City of Bunbury said the agreement was not yet final and will go out for public comment for a minimum of six weeks.

Weโ€™d like to keep our community informed following a recent decision by the Regional Development Assessment Panel.

On Thursday 5 March, a development application for land on Capel Drive and Forrest Road was approved, subject to conditions.

So, what does this mean?

The approved proposal includes:
โ–ช๏ธ 36 short-stay accommodation units
โ–ช๏ธ 52 over-55s lifestyle village homes
โ–ช๏ธ 8 residential units above a future shop development
โ–ช๏ธ Refurbishment of the existing tavern

This is a $30 million development that aims to bring new accommodation, housing options and local amenities to Capel.

The approval is valid for 4 years, giving the applicant time to meet all conditions and begin construction.
