From 1 July 2026, builder registration will not be required to construct Class 10a buildings (such as sheds, private garages, carports, patios) valued at less than $50,000.

Raising the threshold (previously $20,000) gives homeowners more options, and possibly lower costs, while smaller service providers can take on new work. Building permits and other compliance protections remain in place.
