From 1 July 2026, conveyancers will be required to comply with new obligations under Australia's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF) laws.

What does this mean for clients buying or selling property?

For more than 10 years, conveyancers have been verifying client identities as part of the conveyancing process. Under the new requirements, we will also need to collect some additional information at the time of engagement, including:

✔️ Source of funds for the transaction (e.g. bank finance, savings)
✔️ Occupation details
✔️ Purpose and nature of the transaction

These checks are mandatory for all clients.

We have been working behind the scenes to implement streamlined processes so that we can continue to provide a smooth and efficient conveyancing experience while meeting the new compliance requirements.

Community Shout Out! 📣📣📣

I love seeing community book swaps around the place especially when one pops up near me!

The fab crew at the Burra Post Office have just introduced the “Burra Community Library” for people to share, read, enjoy and recycle books and dvds.

For bookworm like me, it’s a winner (and a book may have already been adopted)! 📚

Hot Tip Tuesday!

What actually happens on settlement day?

Once the property has settled, your conveyancer will call to confirm settlement. Funds have now changed hands and documents have now been lodged with Land Services SA to register the change of ownership. Settlements can take place from 9am through to 4.30pm on the day. All will be confirmed prior.

If you have purchased a property, the real estate agent will be advised and you can collect your keys from the agent.

Your conveyancer will also notify Council, RevenueSA, SA Water, Strata/Community Corporation Manager of the change of ownership. Electricity, gas, internet will need to be done by the homeowner.

Time to unpack and enjoy your new home! 🏡
