Meet our Youth Law Centre student volunteers!

This is Sophie (she/her), who is in her final year of Law and International Relations at the ANU. As navigating the law and justice systems can be scary and confusing, Sophie volunteers at the YLC because she understands how important it is for young people to be well-informed about their rights and obligations, as well as feel heard, understood and supported.

If you are a young person with a legal question or concern, you don’t have to navigate it alone. The Youth Law Centre functions as a free and confidential service to those requiring legal assistance from 12-25 years.

We are located at 2 Allsop Street Civic – where you can drop by between 10am and 4pm for assistance. Bring a support person, parent or come alone – however you feel most comfortable.

If you are a young person with a legal issue please contact the YLC on (02) 6173 5410.

On Friday 14 May @ 10AM Legal Aid ACT's Youth Law Centre is participating in the ACT Law Society's , discussing the importance of youth services and fundraising for Canberra's Raw Potential - a charity that empowers Canberra's disadvantaged youth.

Youth Law Centre (YLC) solicitors will explain via an online webinar what the Youth Law Centre is, how it functions, and how it supports young people in the ACT. They will touch on the importance of early intervention when navigating the legal issues young people face, as well as the importance of young people seeking free and confidential advice from services such as the YLC.

Law Week is an annual event held in May across Australia to promote public understanding of the law and its role in society. Each year in Canberra the Law Society and its partners run a range of events to celebrate and engage the local legal profession, and to educate the public about the role of lawyers in our society.

If you want to learn more about the function of the Youth Law Centre, make sure to register via eventbrite, or via https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/national-law-week-youth-law-legal-aid-act-webinar-tickets-153584251631 !
