We love celebrating the arrival of new staff but today we celebrate someone who has been with CMC for 20 years.

Family lawyer and a Partner of our firm, Jillaine Duve, began at our Picton office in June 2006 and is now based between the Narellan and Picton offices. She was admitted as a lawyer in Queensland in 1998 (28 years ago!) and, in that time, has helped many thousands of clients. We forgive her for still supporting Queensland in the State of Origin. Everyone has the right to live free from abuse in their family, home and community.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

An initiative of the United Nations to draw attention to, and take action on, this issue and its many forms, ā€˜including physical, psychological, and financial abuse, as well as neglectā€™. The 2026 theme is Beyond Awareness: Making Elder Abuse Prevention Work.

This week was a big milestoneā€”we got into the ring for a sparring session with John McDonald. It was a massive reality check on how much I still have to learn, but Iā€™m completely hooked! I can feel my fitness and boxing knowledge growing every single week.

Our staff are continuing their specialised training into the significant new laws that will come into force on 1 July, introduced by the government to prevent money laundering and financial crime.

What does this mean for law firms, real estate agents, accountants and other similar small businesses? We will need to take extra steps to verify your identity and will need to ask you additional questions about things like the source of your funds for your transaction (for example, if you are buying a house). Small businesses across Australia will be shouldering some of the responsibility of identifying criminal activity or proceeds of crime and serious reporting obligations have been placed on us.

So please be patient with our staff if we ask you additional questions or seek more documentation from you while we do our best to comply with the new legislation.
