National Sorry Day is a day to remember and acknowledge the pain, suffering and injustices inflicted upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, in particular the Stolen Generations who were forcibly removed from their families to be assimilated into white Australian culture.

Sorry Day not only serves as a reminder of past wrongs but also as a call to action for ongoing efforts in truth-telling, justice, and empowerment for our First Nations.

It reinforces the importance of understanding and respecting First Nations cultures, promoting reconciliation, and working towards a future where the injustices of the past are not repeated.

The Joint Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs in the Federal Government is currently holding an inquiry into racism, hate and violence directed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

QSNTS is preparing a submission to the inquiry. If you would like to share experiences of racism, discrimination, hate, or unfair treatment connected to your native title journey, you are welcome to provide comments to QSNTS for consideration as part of our submission. This can be instead of, or in addition to, making your own individual submission to the inquiry.

If you would like your experiences or comments considered as part of QSNTS’ submission, please provide them to QSNTS by Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

If you wish to make a private submission you can discuss options on how to keep your identity or someone else’s identity private with the Committee Secretariat. You can also request to keep your submission confidential.

Today, on ANZAC Day, we honour the courage and sacrifice of all those who have served and continue to serve in the defence of our nation. We remember the brave soldiers who fought for our country and we remember our First Nations who served alongside them, despite facing discrimination and injustice.

For generations our First Nations have proudly served in the armed forces, their stories, often hidden or overlooked, reveal a legacy of bravery, resilience, and sacrifice. Despite barriers, they joined forces with their non-Indigenous comrades, serving with distinction and contributing to Australia’s military history in profound ways.
