🌿 Meet Stephanie — Our new Law Clerk

We’re excited to introduce Stephanie, who has joined Carson & Co. While we have known Stephanie for many years to help everyone get to know her, we asked her a few quick questions:

✨ How long have you been working in the legal industry? ✨
I’ve worked in the legal industry since graduating high school and have been working solely in the personal injury space since 2011.

✨ What do you enjoy most about your job? ✨
I’m naturally methodical and detail‑driven, so I love the investigative side of my role — gathering evidence, researching the law and preparing documents to ensure every client’s claim is thoroughly supported. It’s incredibly rewarding seeing all that hard work come together when a matter settles or judgment is awarded. Being able to support clients during some of the toughest moments of their lives is a privilege and what makes this work meaningful.

✨ What’s one thing people might not realise about your role? ✨Paralegals and Law Clerks are often mistaken for admin assistants, but career Paralegals/Law Clerks are highly skilled and truly the backbone of law firms. We’re the driving force behind a client’s compensation claim — often knowing more about the client and the file than anyone else. When you hone your craft, it’s a deeply fulfilling career.

Asian cuisine is my favourite. My top pick was Sunda in Melbourne (before they sadly closed).

🧺Go‑to weekend activity? 🐕
A day trip or picnic with my husband and dog, or a walk/talk/coffee catch‑up with a friend. Time with loved ones always fills my cup.

✈️️ If you could travel anywhere tomorrow, where would you go✈️ Either Egypt, Machu Picchu, Myanmar or Germany.

To slow down time — to savour moments with loved ones, holidays, and quiet early‑morning coffees.

Today we recognise World Day for Safety & Health at Work — a global reminder that every worker deserves a safe, healthy and supportive workplace.

This year’s focus on Healthy Psychosocial Workplaces - this
highlights that safety isn’t only about physical hazards.
It’s also about reducing stress, supporting each other, and creating environments where people feel respected and heard.

Whether on the workshop floor, in an office, or out in the field, staying safe means looking after both body and mind.

Small actions — checking in, communicating clearly, and working together — make a real difference.

🚗 Rideshare & Food Delivery Drivers – This Is IMPORTANT 🍔📦

This week I had a client contact me after his insurer declined his property damage claim despite him not being at fault.

The reason? He was driving for payment at the time of the accident.

Many comprehensive motor insurance policies include exclusions that may mean you are NOT covered if you are:

❌ Carrying passengers for payment
– including taxis or ridesharing (e.g. Uber, DiDi, Ola)
❌ Carrying or delivering other people’s goods for payment
– including food delivery, parcels or courier work
– whether as an employee or contractor (e.g. Uber Eats, DoorDash, Menulog)

⚠️ What does this mean?
If your vehicle is damaged, or you cause an accident while working, your own insurer may decline the claim — leaving you personally responsible for repair and property damage costs - regardless of if you were at fault.

✅ Important to know:
• These exclusions do NOT apply to CTP claims that cover injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
• If another party is at fault, you may still be entitled to claim against them and their insurer for your vehicle damage — even if your own comprehensive policy declines your claim.

👉 The key takeaway:
If you drive for rideshare or delivery, check your policy carefully or speak with your insurer or broker to make sure you have the correct cover for the work you do.
