JOB KEEPER PACKAGE ANNOUNCED: Today Scott Morrison announced a $130B stimulus package to be delivered over the next 6 months to support the jobs and livelihoods of those who will need it.

The government will make a $1,500 per fortnight, “job keeper” payment to employers, to pay each of their employees, to keep them in their businesses during this time so that they can bounce back after the virus subsides.

The treasurer called it a “war on 2 fronts - an economic crisis and a health crisis” and reassured Australians that the government “has their back”.

COVID-19 UPDATE - MENTAL HEALTH & DV SUPPORT

Today the Prime Minister provided Australians with an update on the measures the government is putting in place to deal with the COVID-19 crisis specifically to assist with mental health, domestic violence and emergency support services.

As such, the government is introducing:

1️⃣ 74M in funding to be put towards mental health support. To be applied across preventative work, counselling, healthcare workers, youth and elderly.

2️⃣ Telehealth to provide access to GPs and other health care specialists without the need for in person attendances.

3️⃣ The doubling of bulk billing practices.

4️⃣ Increased funding for Domestic Violence (DV) initiatives (This comes after the government noticed a 75% increase in searches on DV in recent days).

5️⃣ $200M will be provided towards emergency relief support (for food relief) this is 4 x their annual funding which will be shared amongst organisations to cope with the increased need.
