Misogyny is a problem I’ve seen worsen during my time working in law.
A big part of what’s changed is how “digitally native” many young people are. Algorithms can pull boys and young men into online rabbit holes where influencers promote extreme views about masculinity, relationships, and women—views that can quickly become normalised and dangerous.
At the same time, our public conversation can slip into a bleak binary: men as inevitable perpetrators and women as perpetual victims. That framing strips autonomy from everyone and leaves little room for growth, responsibility, or change.
As a parent, I don’t want my son or daughter raised inside that script.
We need to do better—early and consistently:
• give boys real support to build self-esteem, self-mastery and purpose
• give girls real support to build autonomy, independence and confidence
If we want safer homes and healthier relationships, we need to invest in young people’s identity and agency—before the internet (or culture wars) does it for them.
