Today I had the privilege of attending the Annual Gold Coast Legal Conference 2026, an outstanding event that brought together legal professionals from across Queensland for a day of learning, reflection, and professional growth.

The conference covered a wide range of timely and thought-provoking topics, including Stress Management and Self-Care for Legal Practitioners, AML/CTF Tranche 2 obligations coming into force on 1 July 2026, Neurodivergence in the Law, Navigating Difficult Conversations in Legal Practice, Effective Advocacy, Getting it Right in Commercial Litigation, Smarter Lawyering with AI.

Among the many excellent sessions, the panel discussion on AI was especially relevant to the future of legal practice. One message resonated strongly throughout the discussion: AI is not coming; it is already here. The consensus was clear that lawyers are unlikely to be replaced by AI. However, lawyers who effectively embrace and utilise AI are likely to replace those who do not. The challenge for the profession is not whether to engage with AI, but how to use it responsibly, ethically, and effectively to better serve clients.

It was an incredible day of professional development, networking, and knowledge-sharing. A sincere thank you to the Queensland Law Society for delivering such a well-organised and engaging conference. The quality of the speakers, content, and overall experience was exceptional.
