Kirstie Day is a family law specialist accredited by the Queensland Law Society and nationally accredited mediator. Kirstie undertook a Bachelor of Laws at the Queensland University of Technology before commencing her Articles of Clerkship in a boutique family law firm, Margaret Jones Solicitor. Kirstie has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of family law, including complex financial and p

arenting matters. Kirstie was appointed to and sat on the Queensland Law Society’s Specialist Accreditation Family Law Advisory Committee from 2019 until 2023 and previously sat on the Queensland Law Society’s Family Law Committee. Kirstie is a qualified collaborative lawyer and member of the Queensland Association of Collaborative Practitioners and is happy to discuss the process of collaborative law. Kirstie is well known for her pragmatic approach to family law and her desire to achieve outcomes for clients that are timely and cost-effective. Kirstie is a nationally accredited mediator and enjoys working with parties to reach resolution to avoid protracted and costly litigation. Kirstie has presented seminars at the Queensland Law Society and was recognized in Brisbane as a “Preeminent Parenting and Children’s Matter Lawyer” and “Leading Family and Divorce Lawyer” in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 by Doyle’s Guide to the Legal Profession. Kirstie is a strong and passionate supporter of women in the law and particularly enjoys her mentoring relationships with young professionals. Kirstie enjoys spending time with her family and friends and previously sat on the board of one of Brisbane’s leading schools.

Court Dog Program expands into New South Wales 🦮🦮

The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia’s Court Dog Program has continued its expansion with Court dogs “Molly”, “Lani” and “Sunny” joining the Parramatta, Sydney and Newcastle registries.
Ceremonies took place last week to swear in the newest editions of the Court with each furry member taking a ‘woof of honour’.
The Court Dog Program launched in 2023 in the Melbourne and Hobart Registries with “Poppy” and “Zoey”.

The program uses specially trained therapy dogs to provide comfort and emotional support to litigants and children involved in Family Law Court proceedings. The Court Dogs are available in their respective registries to provide support to litigants and children including whilst they give evidence in Court and during Court-based interviews. Chief Justice of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the Honourable William Alstergren AO has said that the Court has been overwhelmed by the positive reception to the Court Dog Program in Melbourne and Hobart and that the Court is beyond excited to see the impact the new additions will make in New South Wales.

The team had the pleasure of attending the 2025 Family Law Practitioners Association (FLPA) Retreat at the QT hotel on the Gold Coast over the weekend.

A wonderful opportunity for our team to gather outside of the office with a full schedule of entertaining and informative professional development, and connecting with fellow family law practitioners.

The highlight of the retreat was keynote speaker, Trent Dalton (), cousin of our Director, Kirstie Day, who engaged all of us with his deeply moving and inspiring life story.

We couldn’t be more proud of you Trent, and thank you for reminding us why we continue to do the work that we do as family lawyers.
