‼️ Lazarus Legal is Hiring!‼️

Practice Manager — Part-Time, Flexible (Bondi Junction)

Lazarus Legal is a boutique law firm based on Oxford Street in Bondi Junction (right near the Westfield). We work across commercial, litigation, property, wills, and estate planning, acting for everyone from startup founders to established businesses and individuals.

We’re looking for the right person to come in and help run the practice. This is a genuine hands-on role. You’d be the person who keeps everything moving: the finances, the office, the supplies, the team. One minute you’re looking at the month’s billings, the next you’re making sure there’s paper in the printer and the zip tap is actually working.

The kind of things you’d be across:

• Invoicing, collections, paying bills, managing credit cards and subscriptions
• Keeping on top of how the firm is tracking financially — revenue versus spend, where to push, where to pull back
• Opening and closing client files and preparing cost disclosure documents
• Office management — supplies, stationery, equipment, making sure everything runs
• Helping coordinate workflow and keeping track of who’s working on what
• Being someone the team can talk to — a steady, approachable presence in the office
• Working with our external accountants to keep everything in order
You don’t need to be a qualified accountant. But you do need to be comfortable looking at numbers, understanding what they mean, and being able to tell us where things are tracking well and where they’re not. If you can look at a P&L, spot where the money is going, and flag what needs attention, that’s what we need.

The hours are flexible and we’re happy to work around other commitments. This is a part-time role and we’re not looking to over-engineer it. We just want the right person who can bring some order and visibility to how the practice operates.

If this sounds like you (or someone you know), send me a DM or email me at [email protected].

Two nights away in the Hunter Valley 🍇
No schedule
No rushing
No constant noise

Just time to breathe 😌

After an intense 2025, it became pretty clear that pushing harder wasn’t the answer.

Work that never really switched off
Buying and renovating a house 🏡
The usual pressures of life that quietly pile up
And a few family health scares that really stop you in your tracks

Stepping away was a conscious decision.

Not to escape life
But to reconnect with what actually matters ❤️

Spending that time with my wife, Jo, was grounding.
She’s my rock, my biggest fan, and we’re a team through it all.

There was space for proper conversations.
About the kids and how fast they’re growing
About the challenges they’re facing
About goals as parents
And goals for the future

Those long, uninterrupted chats you forget you’re missing until the noise finally drops away.

It also reinforced something important on the work front.

Being able to step away only works if you’ve built the right support around you.

At Lazarus Legal, I’m incredibly grateful for a solid team who keep things moving while I take a moment to reset.
Clients are looked after.
Matters continue.
Nothing falls through the cracks.

That doesn’t happen by accident.
It comes from trust, good people, and systems that don’t rely on one person running on empty.

Strong marriages and strong businesses have a lot in common.

They need intention.
They need trust.
They need breathing room.

Life isn’t just about working harder 💼
It’s about working smarter in every part of your life.

Your work
Your health
Your relationships

This short reset delivered exactly what was needed.
Perspective.
Calm.
Connection ✨

Time away isn’t a luxury.
It’s maintenance.

Because success means very little if you’re disconnected at home.
And no business truly grows if it can’t function without you for a few days.

When was the last time you properly stepped away and reset what matters most?

As the year comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on just how much this year has held.

Wins and challenges often show up together.
And this year delivered plenty of both.

There were big milestones, tough conversations, long days, and moments that really tested resilience 💥
For some, it was a year of growth.
For others, a year of simply getting through.
Often, it was both at the same time.

I’m incredibly grateful to our clients for trusting us with your businesses and your challenges. Being part of those important moments, especially when the pressure is on, is never something we take lightly 💼

To our friends and referral partners, thank you for the support, belief, and encouragement throughout the year.
And to our family, thank you for the patience, understanding, and quiet support behind the scenes ❤️

A special thank you to the Lazarus Legal team. I couldn’t be prouder of the work you do and the way you show up every day 👊

As we head into the holiday break, we do so grateful, recharged, and excited for what’s ahead ✨

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy, safe, and well-earned holiday season 🎄

Here’s to rest, reflection, and coming back stronger in the new year.

Yom Kippur is a time to pause ✨
To reflect 🙏
To reset 🌿

As the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, it’s about atonement and renewal.

A chance to look inward, acknowledge our missteps, and move forward with clarity and purpose.

From all of us at Lazarus Legal, we wish those observing an easy and meaningful fast.

May this Yom Kippur bring peace, strength and the opportunity for a fresh start.

Are SAFEs Actually Safe? 🤔💰

Today, we had a client ask us about SAFE Notes—how they work, whether they’re a good option, and what the risks are. It’s a question we get all the time, so I thought I’d break it down here.

For many Australian startups, raising capital is a huge milestone, but setting a valuation too early can be tricky. That’s where SAFEs (Simple Agreements for Future Equity) come in. Originally developed by Y Combinator, SAFEs offer a fast, founder-friendly way to raise funds. But while they seem simple, they come with risks for both startups and investors.

✅ The Pros of SAFEs

🔹 Founder-Friendly: No need to set a valuation too early, which can be beneficial in the early days.

🔹 Speed & Simplicity: Fewer negotiations and legal costs compared to traditional equity rounds.

🔹 Investor Upside: Investors often get a discount or a valuation cap, giving them better terms when shares are eventually issued.

🔹 No Debt Obligation: Unlike convertible notes, SAFEs don’t accrue interest or have a repayment deadline.

❌ The Cons of SAFEs

⚠️ Dilution Risk: Founders may give away more equity than expected when SAFEs convert.

⚠️ Investor Uncertainty: Investors hold a right to future equity, not actual shares, meaning their stake isn’t guaranteed until a triggering event.

⚠️ Complexity in Later Rounds: Multiple SAFEs with different terms (caps, discounts, etc.) can create headaches in future fundraising rounds.

⚠️ Insolvency Risks: If the company fails before a SAFE converts, investors often lose everything—they rank behind creditors and secured investors in insolvency proceedings.

Key Features: Valuation Caps, Discounts & More

SAFEs typically include:

💰 Valuation Cap: A maximum valuation at which the SAFE converts, ensuring early investors get better terms than later ones.

📉 Discount Rate: A discount on the future share price, rewarding early-stage investors for their risk.

⚖️ Insolvency Considerations: Some SAFEs outline what happens if a company fails, but most provide little to no protection for investors in this scenario.

So, Are SAFEs the Right Choice?

If you’re a startup looking for quick, flexible funding, SAFEs can be a great tool. But they need to be structured carefully, especially in Australia, where corporate and tax laws differ from the US. Investors, too, should be aware of the risks—particularly around dilution and insolvency.

At Lazarus Legal, we help startups and investors navigate SAFE Notes, convertible notes, and all things capital raising. Thinking about using a SAFE? Let’s chat! 🚀
