DMAW Lawyers congratulates Davison Earthmovers on the completion of the sale of a majority interest to Symal Group Limited. The transaction was led by DMAW Lawyers' Daniel Jenkinson, Chris Floreani, Abby-Rose Hill and Laura Martin. We were pleased to work alongside our clients’ expert accounting team Neil Oakes and Tyson Smith from Perks Accountants & Wealth Advisers to complete the deal.

The sale was reported by The Advertiser, noting Davison Earthmovers’ 39-year history, strong local brand, and established relationships as key factors in enabling Symal immediate entry and scale to accelerate its participation in major infrastructure projects in South Australia, including road and rail, defence, building and facilities, and renewable energy initiatives.

In South Australia, an environmental incident is more than an operational issue and can trigger immediate legal reporting obligations.

Businesses and employees may be required to notify the South Australian Environment Protection Authority as soon as material or serious environmental harm is caused or suspected, with significant penalties for failing to do so.

In this article, Nicole Mead and Mila Elvish offer practical tips on how businesses can prepare, respond, and reduce environmental compliance risk.

Strong compliance systems and incident response planning is essential risk management.

In recognition of National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2026, Bernice Witkowski, Irini Kourakis and Stephanie Dugan attended “Warren Rankine In Conversation with Michelle Prak”, on behalf of DMAW lawyers.

At this Reconciliation Week event, Ngarrindjeri descendant Warren Rankine discussed his powerful memoir “Fifteen Feet Tall”, a moving account of trauma, resilience, culture, and hope in South Australia. Warren also spoke about the sensitivity around reconnecting with his heritage, reflecting on the lasting impact of losing his cultural identity at a young age and the complexities of rebuilding that connection later in life.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is "All In", a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. "All In" makes it clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

Thank you to the City of Charles Sturt in conjunction with Reconciliation Australia for hosting this important and enjoyable event.

Our legal and management teams recently came together in Victor Harbor for our 2026 Beyond the Office (BTO) conference – an opportunity to step away from day-to-day practice, connect as one collaborative team and focus on the future of the firm.

The conference combined strategy, professional development and team-building activities, including sessions on leadership, innovation and the firm’s 2026–2028 Strategic Plan, alongside plenty of opportunities to strengthen connections, share ideas and spend time together outside the office.

It was a great few days that left our team feeling connected, energised and excited about the opportunities ahead for both the firm and our people.

Earlier this week, a group of our staff took part in a refreshing walk along the River Torrens as part of JusticeNet SA’s annual Walk for Justice.

Held during Law Week on National Pro Bono Day, the Walk for Justice raises vital funds to support JusticeNet SA’s mission of connecting those in need with vital legal support and acknowledges the legal profession's commitment to ensuring access to justice. At the conclusion of the event participants enjoyed a well-earned light breakfast and coffee at Adelaide Oval to celebrate.

As lawyers, we are committed to improving access to justice within our community through voluntary pro bono work. Our pro bono committee encourages participation across all levels of the firm and works to ensure our efforts are meaningful and responsive to community need.

A big thank you to our Pro Bono Committee for organising our involvement, and to everyone who participated in or supported the event.

DMAW Lawyers were pleased to Association of Corporate Counsel (SA Division) members and prospective members at our recent event, “Dr Stone on Prices, Policy & Power Plays”.

Guests gathered on our rooftop terrace to enjoy delicious paella and take in a timely and thought-provoking discussion (facilitated by Matthew Fisher) with one of Australia’s leading economic experts, Dr Susan Stone, Credit Union SA Chair of Economics at Adelaide University.

Dr Stone shared valuable insights on the global energy landscape, geopolitical tensions, inflationary pressures and what it all means for Australian businesses navigating an increasingly complex economic environment.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the event such a success.
