According to Mercer’s latest Quality of Living City Ranking (2024), Vienna is the city with the second highest quality of living in the world (behind Zurich and ahead of Geneva and Copenhagen). At the same time, Vienna is only ranked in 24th position in Mercer’s Cost of Living City Ranking 2024 (with Zurich and Geneva in 3rd and 4th place and Copenhagen in 11th place).
This combination of safety, excellent infrastructure, great universities, outstanding medical services, and exceptionally high environmental standards on the one hand and affordability as well as the absence of gift, inheritance and wealth taxes on the other hand makes Austria in general and Vienna in particular an ideal destination for financially independent persons from around the globe.
