Adultery in the UAE is not what you may think it is anymore👇

While consensual relationships between unmarried adults were decriminalised, adultery where at least one party is married may still be treated as a criminal offence under UAE law.

It is generally complaint-based, meaning proceedings usually require a formal complaint from the spouse. Withdrawing the complaint may result in the case being dropped.

Adultery may also have criminal, family and financial consequences. Always seek legal advice based on your circumstances.

The Medical Committee confirmed the error. What happens in court next?

Stage three of a UAE medical negligence case begins once the medical report is final.

Civil court - the Court of First Instance in the relevant emirate quantifies the harm: causal link, percentage of disability, loss of earnings, cost of ongoing care, moral damages for pain and suffering, and in wrongful death cases the compensation owed to the surviving spouse, children and dependents.

Criminal track - under Federal Decree-Law No. 4 of 2016, a doctor cannot be investigated, arrested or prosecuted unless the health authority has first issued a final medical report confirming a gross medical error. Gross error is a defined legal standard, not every mistake.

Both tracks, civil and criminal, can run in parallel. Complex fatal cases typically take 12–24months to first judgment, with further time for appeal.

You cannot sue a UAE doctor until this happens first 👇

Under Federal Decree-Law No. 4 of 2016, no UAE court will accept a medical negligencecompensation claim unless it has first been referred to the Medical Liability Committee.

The process runs in two stages:

1. Medical Liability Committee - file with the health authority (MOHAP, DHA or DoH AbuDhabi). A panel of specialist doctors issues a reasoned report within 30 days on whether a medical error occurred, its seriousness and the percentage of disability.

2. Supreme Committee of Medical Liability - either side has 30 days to challenge. This committee can uphold, amend or cancel. Its decision is final.

Only after that does the civil court open the compensation claim.
