The UAE has officially replaced its 40-year-old Civil Code.

Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, which entered into force on 1 June 2026, introduces a new Civil Transactions Law governing contracts, obligations, civil liability, property rights, guarantees, insurance relationships, and much more.

While much attention has recently focused on corporate tax and regulatory reforms, the Civil Transactions Law remains one of the most important pillars of the UAE legal system.

Businesses should take this opportunity to review their contracts, risk allocation provisions, and legal documentation to ensure alignment with the updated framework.

The UAE has intensified enforcement on delayed salary payments, reinforcing that payroll compliance is no longer viewed as just an internal operational issue.

Authorities are increasing scrutiny through the Wage Protection System (WPS), with delayed or incomplete salary payments potentially triggering:

• labour inspections
• work permit restrictions
• company classification downgrades
• employee complaints and legal claims

Importantly, even informal agreements with employees regarding delayed salaries may not override regulatory obligations under UAE labour law.

The UAE employment market continues to attract global talent. Unfortunately, so do recruitment scammers.

Fake UAE job offers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, often using:

• Copied company branding
• Fake contracts
• WhatsApp and Telegram outreach
• Promises of high salaries and “guaranteed visas”

The most important rule remains simple:

Legitimate UAE employers do not ask candidates to pay recruitment fees upfront.

Job seekers should:

• Independently verify the company
• Review email domains carefully
• Confirm vacancies through official platforms
• Avoid unlicensed recruiters operating via social media or messaging apps

As digital recruitment expands, awareness and verification are becoming essential forms of risk protection.
