Dubai Rental Dispute Centre (RDC) clarified important protections for tenants in Dubai โ things many of us may not be aware of.
โ๏ธ Rent Increases Are Regulated โ Landlords canโt raise rent arbitrarily. They must give you at least 90 days notice before renewal, and any rise must follow the official rental index.
โ๏ธ Maintenance is the Landlordโs Responsibility (unless agreed otherwise) โ Landlords must ensure structural maintenance and keep the property habitable. If there are unresolved issues, you have the right to reach out to RDC.
โ๏ธ Evictions Are Strictly Regulated โ You canโt be forced to leave just because the landlord wants you out. Eviction before lease end is permitted only if legally valid โ e.g. unpaid rent, unauthorized subletting, property damage, or lease breach.
โ๏ธ Even at Renewal or End of Lease โ If the owner wants you to leave (for sale, major renovation, personal use, etc.), they must give 12 months notice through a formal legal channel (Notary Public or registered mail).
If youโre a tenant in Dubai, know your rights โ and donโt sign anything without reading carefully. If something is wrong, you can always contact the RDC rather than just accepting unfair demands.
