COMPLIANCE BY REGISTERING AS A DATA CONTROLLER.

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has declared its intention to commence enforcement of the Cyber and Data Protection Act [12:07] (CDPA).

Failure to comply with the CDPA carries substantial penalties, including imprisonment for a maximum of seven years, a Level 11 fine, or both, as outlined in Section 33 of the CDPA.

Organizations are mandated to undertake the following actions:
1. Register as Data Controllers.
2. Appoint a Data Protection Officer.
The DPO knows what to do afterwards.

This issue represents a critical compliance concern that could significantly affect an organization's reputation, potentially lead to the incarceration of its leadership, and result in a loss of business.

Should your organization not be registered as a Data Controller and/or lack an appointed Data Protection Officer, please contact us.

On 30 Mav 2026 at the Sandton Hotel in Johannesburg Alistair Law Attorneys.'s founder and managing partner Fungai Marufu was recognised by Icons of Africa Awards as an outstanding leader in Africa.

Among the other notable names who were honoured are Zolisa Xaluva, Precious Gondwe (lawyer and philanthropist) from Botswana, Patrick Muyaya Katembwe DRC's Minister of Information, and Enoch Kanzingeni Chihana, Malawi's second Vice President among other notable names. The event and awards celebrate African excellence and storytelling on a global stage.

On Friday 26th June 2026, Alistair Law Attorneys partnered with For Youths By Youths - FYBY among other stakeholders in a drug awareness campaign and march as it was International Day Against Drug Abuse in one of Harare's High Density suburbs. Some of the pictures of the event are attached below.

As part of Alistair Law Attorneys.'s Corporate Social Responsibility, we have been partnering with For Youths By Youths - FYBY in the fight against drug abuse since our days when we were still Marufu Misi Law Chambers.

This year, on the 26th of June 2026, being the International Day Against Drug Abuse, we are together with, other stakeholders including Ministry of Health and Child Care and UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime joining hands in solidarity with the rest of the world in saying no to drug abuse.
