A Temporary Permit is issued to a prohibited immigrant, or any person as directed by the Minister of Home Affairs; parent(s) (father, mother or fore parents only) of a holder of an Employment Permit or Investor’s Permit within the validity of the permit; and a dependent of permit holder above the age of 18.
This Permit is also issued to a foreigner who has appealed to the Minister of Home Affairs against rejection of their permit application or notice to leave Zambia.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ISSUANCE
A Prohibited Immigrant or any person directed by the Minister

1. Covering letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration;

2. Certified copy of valid passport (bio data &last endorsement stamp for Zambia) (where available);

3. Copy of endorsed appeal to the Minister;

4. Proof of Court process (e.g. bail, where applicable); and

5. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: (TBA)

A Temporary Employment Permit is issued to any business visitor who intends to remain in Zambia for a period exceeding thirty (30) days. The validity of the permit should not exceed six (6) months within a period of twelve (12) months.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ISSUANCE
1. Covering letter from the institution doing business with the applicant;

2. Certified copy of a valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp);

3. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: check here

REQUIREMENTS FOR RENEWAL/EXTENSION
1. Covering letter from the employer indicating the reasons for extension;

A Study Permit is issued to a foreign national who intends to study on full time or part time basis at a Zambian Educational Institution. Children and dependents of holders of permits should apply for Study Permits in order to study at an educational institution in Zambia for a period longer than three (03) months unless the children or dependents in their own right hold Residence Permits, in which case they should ensure that the occupation on their Residence Permits reads β€œstudent”.

Note: The holder of a Study Permit shall comply with the conditions specified in the permit and shall not engage, for gain, in any activity, business, trade, employment, profession, or any other thing not specified in the permit.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ISSUANCE
1. Cover letter from applicant addressed to the Director General of Immigration;

2. Certified copy of a valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia);

3. Letter of acceptance from the educational institution;

4. Letter from sponsor (e.g., institution, host, parent, guardian, applicant, if self-reliant, etc.) supporting the application;

5. Proof of status of sponsor (whether a national or a permit holder);

6. Financial status of sponsor; and

7. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: (TBA)

REQUIREMENTS FOR RENEWAL/EXTENSION
1. Covering letter from school;

2. Latest results transcript / progress report;

3. Original Study Permit; and

4. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: (TBA)

REQUIREMENT FOR VARIATION BY CHANGE OF SCHOOL

1. Covering letter from the applicant addressed to the Director General of Immigration;

2. Acceptance letter from new school;

3. Original Permit;

4. Latest results transcript/progress report from previous school; and

A Residence Permit confers permanent residence to a holder and is issued to a foreigner who: has held an Employment Permit for a continuous period exceeding ten (10) years; is a dependent (who is 21 years old or below) of someone with a valid Residence Permit or an established resident; has held an Investor’s Permit for more than three(3) years; has held a Spouse Permit for at least five (5) years; is a person (irrespective of age) born from a citizen; is a dependent of foreign origin under the care of a citizen; has intention to retire in Zambia and showing proof of sufficient funds (pension, irrevocable annuity, retirement account); and a holder of an Entry Permit(provided there are reasonable and justifiable grounds for the delayed change).

REQUIREMENTS FOR ISSUANCE

a. Applicants aged between 7 - 15 years

1. Cover letter to the Director General of Immigration;

2. Certified copy of a valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia);

3. Certified copy of the birth certificate of the applicant;

4. Certified copy of parents’ status;

5. Original Permit (where applicable);

6. Adoption certificate (in case of adopted children);

7. Proof of enrolment at an educational institution (for students);

8. Alien Registration Card; and

9. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: (TBA)

b. Applicants above 16 years

1. Covering letter to the Director General of Immigration;

2. Alien Registration Card;

3. Certified copy of the Birth Certificate of the applicant;

4. Certified copy of Marriage Certificate;

5. Two testimonials from persons of good standing who have known the applicant for a minimum period of not less than three (3) years;

6. Certified copy of a valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia);

7. Certified copy of the host’s status;

8. Original permit (where applicable);

9. Adoption Certificate (in case of adopted children);

10. Proof of enrolment at an educational Institution (for students); and

11. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: (TBA)

c. Holders of Investor’s Permit

1. Covering letter to the Director General of Immigration;

2. Registration Card;

3. Original Permit;

4. VAT/ZRA receipts/Valid ZRA Tax Clearance Certificate;

5. Current bank statement;

6. Audit Report from a recognised firm registered with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA);

7. Title of ownership or lease agreement (where applicable);

8. Certified photocopies of current passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia);

9. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: check here; and

10. Inspection Report by Immigration (Only after submission of application).

d. Holders of Employment Permit

1. Cover letter to the Director General of Immigration;

2. Aliens (Commonwealth) Registration Card;

3. Original Permit;

4. Two reference letters;

5. Certified copy of a valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia);

6. Recent passport size photograph;

7. Contract of employment;

8. Certified documentary proof of professional or other qualification; and

9. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: check here.

An Employment permit is issued to a foreigner who enters the country to take up employment for any period exceeding six (06) months. It can be extended to a maximum of 10 years.

Note: All applicants should remain outside Zambia until the permit has been approved.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ISSUANCE
1. Covering letter from the employer addressed to the Director General of Immigration;

2. Employment contract or Letter of offer;

3. Police clearance from the country of residence;

4. Curriculum Vitae;

5. Certified copy of qualifications (academic, professional);

6. Certified copy of a valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia);

7. Copy of succession plan;

8. Copy of the PACRA Certificate of Incorporation; and

9. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: (TBA)

REQUIREMENTS FOR RENEWAL/ EXTENSION
1. Cover letter to the Director General of Immigration from employer on company letterhead;

2. Extended (New) contract;

3. Original Permit;

4. Certified copy of a valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia); and

REQUIREMENTS FOR VARIATION BY ADDITION OF CHILDREN AND/OR SPOUSE
1. Cover letter to the Director General of Immigration from the applicant.

3. Certified copies of marriage/birth certificate/s (as appropriate);

4. Certified copy of a valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia); and

5. Department of Immigration Prescribed Fees: (TBA)
