HAPPY YOUTH DAY FROM PROJECT LEGAL

Today we celebrate Youth Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the energy, creativity, and potential of young people who continue to shape the future of our nation. Youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but active contributors to progress today, bringing innovation, resilience, and new ideas to the communities around them.

At Project Legal we believe that empowering young people with knowledge, especially knowledge of the law, civic responsibility, and leadership, is essential to building a stronger society. As part of our 2026 theme of preparing the next generation of civic leaders, we remain committed to creating platforms where young people can learn, engage, and develop the confidence to participate meaningfully in their communities.

Through initiatives such as legal tours, civic education programmes, academic competitions, youth dialogue forums, and projects like the Running Lawyer Series, Project Legal continues to invest in the growth and empowerment of young people. These activities are designed not only to inform, but to inspire young individuals to understand their rights, respect the rule of law, and contribute positively to national development.

As we celebrate Youth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the aspirations of young people and working alongside them to build informed, responsible, and engaged communities.

WHY WE CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Every year on International Women's Day, the world pauses to recognize the achievements of women and renew the global commitment to gender equality. Celebrated on March 8, the day honours the social, economic, cultural, and political contributions women have made to societies around the world, while also reminding us that the journey toward equality is still ongoing.

The origins of International Women’s Day trace back to the early twentieth century, when women organized movements demanding better working conditions, fair wages, and the right to vote. Over time, these efforts grew into a global movement advocating for equal opportunities, dignity, and justice for women everywhere.

International Women’s Day also takes place just ahead of the opening of the Commission on the Status of Women, the largest annual global forum dedicated to gender equality and women’s rights, convened by the United Nations. This forum brings together governments, civil society organisations, and activists from around the world to evaluate progress and push for stronger policies that advance the rights of women and girls.

Despite significant progress, many women and girls continue to face barriers such as unequal opportunities, discrimination, and gender-based violence. International Women’s Day therefore serves both as a celebration of progress and a call to action, encouraging societies to continue working toward fairness, safety, and equal participation for all.

For Project Legal, this day also highlights the importance of legal awareness and civic education. Empowering women and girls with knowledge of their rights is essential to ensuring protection under the law and promoting equality in communities. Through school engagements, civic education initiatives, and legal literacy programmes, Project Legal remains committed to helping build a society where women and girls are informed, protected, and empowered to lead.

ENDING FEBRUARY ON A HIGH NOTE – 2026 PROJECT LEGAL LITERACY QUIZ

Last Wednesday, we proudly closed off the month of February with impact, energy, and academic excellence through the 2026 Project Legal Literacy Quiz Competition.

Hosted by St. Columba’s Secondary School on 25th February 2026, this marked the first Civic Education Quiz of the year and the third quiz proudly sponsored by Project Legal. What makes this even more exciting is the continued growth of the initiative with more schools joining and greater enthusiasm each time.

This year, six schools participated:

• St. Columba’s Secondary School (Host)
• Lukulu Boarding Secondary School
• Lubosi Day Secondary School
• Mulongo Day Secondary School
• Lukulu Day Secondary School
• Namayula Secondary School

The competition was vibrant, intellectually stimulating, and inspiring to witness. Learners demonstrated sharp critical thinking, confidence under pressure, teamwork, and a deep understanding of civic and legal principles. This is exactly why initiatives like this matter, they build more than knowledge; they build character and leadership.

🏆 Final Standings:
🥇 1st Place – St. Columba’s Secondary School
🥈 2nd Place – Lubosi Day Secondary School
🥉 3rd Place – Namayula Secondary School
4th – Lukulu Day Secondary School
5th – Lukulu Boarding Secondary School
6th – Mulongo Day Secondary School

We extend sincere gratitude to the teachers, school administrations, Lukulu DEBs and learners who made this event possible. Your dedication to academic growth and civic education is commendable.

We further extend our gratitude to 10X Photography for continuing to document our activities.

To the champions — congratulations, and keep striving for excellence.
To every participant — your courage to compete already sets you apart. Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep pushing.

At Project Legal, we believe that empowering young people with legal literacy today prepares them to become informed, responsible, and confident civic leaders tomorrow. And this is only the beginning of what 2026 has in store.

The movement continues.
